Family Historian User Group

You may recall that I have been using Family Historian to record genealogical data on the Royal Family as well as my own. ( haven't found a common ancestor yet.
I can see that Prince George is a descendant multiple times over to Charlemagne but I wondered how many routes there are.
I can see this Pictorially on a diagram by choosing Diagram /Options / General/Generations up/ all, Then Check for duplicates ,options/ and unticking the Hide Duplicate Family Branches box.
Now that gives me a Pictorial View and there seem to be several hundred. I could count these manually but its slow.

If I view/ Standard Queries/Ancestors I get a list of all ancestors by generation but each person is listed only once.

is there any way of amending this query so that it doesn't omit someone if they appear more than once in the table.
The Idea I have is to export such a table into excel and then use Pivot tables to see how many times someone is related to Prince George.

David, you don't need to tell us your FH Version as it is in your Profile on the right.

It is not easy with a Query to get that information because it only tests IsAncestorOf and not the relationship path.
You might be able to use the =Relationship() or =RelationCode() functions that allow 1st, 2nd, 3rd, et seq, closest relationship to be tested, but you would need to enter them 100s of times to cater for all possibilities.
[EDIT: I have had a quick play with this and don't think it is feasible.)

You may get what you want for one pair at a time with the Tools > How Related feature, but cannot be sure about FH V5.
Select the two Individual records for Charlemagne and Prince George then use the tool to produce a Report.
You may need to adjust the Options to exclude say Pictures and Sources.
Repeat for each pair of Individuals of interest.

The only other way I can think of is by writing a Plugin to automatically use the =Relationship() or =RelationCode() functions with each of the 1st to say 500th closest relationship.

Also noticed that there seems to be a limit on the maximum Ahnentafel Number. Eg Robert II of Normandy( William the conqueror's father) has a number 1,074,044,980. and Margaret of Wessex 1,705,536,519. Both are 28 times great grandparents
Given that a father's ahnentafel number is always twice his sons I reckon Charlemagne , 10 generations earlier should be around 1 Trillion!
just curious what the limit is? Guesing its 2 to the power 30.

Since FH is a 32-bit program its integers are limited to 2 to the power 32.

Eh! Sorry to contradict you, but although you are correct in saying FH integers are currently restricted to 32 bit Integers, it is an over simplification to say it is because it is a 32bit program! The limit is down to the program writer or programming language he chose to use! (e.g. MS Excel coped when it was only a 16 bit program)

NB I have already reported this Ahnentafel limitation bug to Calico pie.
