Search for Individuals - Query
Is there a way I could create a query looking for an individual by also using Fathers/Mothers name? Or is there another way?
I often need to find an individual where I do not have birth year i.e. at a marriage where age is shown as "full age" and it is a very hit and miss system with almost 40,000 names to browse through!
Hoping someone can help?

Re: Search for Individuals - Query
Yes, you can create a Query with a Rows filter on Father and Mother name.
Reading between the lines, I assume you have Marriage Certificate with the names of the Groom, Bride, and their Father's (and perhaps Mother's) names.
You need a Query which filters by Individual's and Father's and Mother's names.
So on the Rows tab you need to add three Exclude unless filters.
Use the Data Ref Assistant to select Individual > Name, and Individual > Father > Name, and Individual > Mother > Name in turn.
For each one set Operator to contains and tick Parameter on right and choose a Label such as Person, Father & Mother respectively.
When you run the Query you will have to enter a space in any prompt whose name you do not know.
If you need more refinement to enter forenames and surnames separately then you need filters with qualified names such as :GIVEN_ALL and :SURNAME.

Re: Search for Individuals - Query
I have customised the columns in my Records window to include...
Individual Records
Pool
Dates
First (forenames)
Spouse forename
Spouse surname
Relationship to Root
Father
Mother
ID
Updated
Birth Date
Birth Place
Baptism Date
Baptism Place
Marriage Date
Marriage Place
Death Date
Death Place
Burial Date
Burial Place
Email
...and find it is easy to locate people that have limited information by ordering the columns to suit. Obviates the need for a query.

I must admit that was my preferred option but I did not see "Father" or "Mother" in the options?

In Configure Columns, pick Other from the left column.
Heading: Father
Expression: INDI.FAMC[1]>HUSB[1]>NAME[1]:FULL
Heading: Mother
Expression: INDI.FAMC[1]>WIFE[1]>NAME[1]:FULL
Heading: Father

Yes, in Configure Columns add <Other...> from bottom of lefthand Item list.
Heading: whatever you want.
Expression: use <<Insert Data Ref to open Data Ref Assistant and choose as per earlier suggestions just as you would in a Query and many other custom Data Ref features. e.g. Individual > Father > Name > :ADORNED_FULL

Very many thanks - that is exactly why I like this forum - a lot of these procedures are so simple, but if you don't ask, you do not find out!
Thank you Trevor & Mike!
