Linking photos

Post by d1anep » 29 Jan 2017 01:19

I'm baffled! I've imported a family photo and put it in the media section. Then, I've linked all the individual faces from the photos, but none of them appear in their focus window. Is there something else I should have done to get to that stage? Diane

Diane, there is a video tutorial on the technique in how_to:v4:adding_multimedia|> Adding Photographs and Other Multimedia.

Does that family photo appear in the Media tab of the Property Box of each Individual?
If so and you open its Edit window what is shown?

In the Media Window on the Links tab are the Linked Individuals and their Face Frames shown?

How many pictures have you allowed to display in the Focus Window?
Via its Customize View... link top right try increasing Max. Pictures of Focus Person at Top of Window.

Mike,
I've watched the video and have, in fact, done all that (although in the older, more roundabout way), so all the faces are linked to the family photo. The family photo does appear in each of the individual's media in their property box.

In the Media window, if I click on the show frames, all their faces are shown with a frame. However, the individual's face is still not shown in the media section of their focus window, just the family photo.

In the Property Box Media tab, does it show the whole picture? If you click the Show Face icon in the toolbar in the Property Box does that switch to display just the face?

Have you by any chance ticked the option to Exclude from Diagrams for the 'face' pictures? Pictures excluded from diagrams are also excluded from the Focus window.

Diane,
Please check and report in a bit more detail on ALL the options below.

In the Media tab of each Individual, select the Photo and click the Edit button.
In the Edit Media Item dialogue is their Face Frame shown on the photo?
Is the Exclude from Diagrams option ticked?

In the Media Window presumably the Links tab is active when you click Show All Frames.
So in the Links tab above the photo each Individual should be listed who appears in the photo.
If you click on each Individual name in turn does their Face Frame appear in the photo?
Also for each one, what option is selected in Exclude From: on the right?

How many pictures have you allowed to display in the Focus Window?
Via its Customize View... link top right try increasing Max. Pictures of Focus Person at Top of Window.

Thanks. All's good now. The photos appear when I click on the Show Faces icon.

Ah! Diane, have you been talking about the images displayed at the bottom of the Media tab of the Property Box?

What has confused us is that is not usually called the focus window.
The Focus Window images are shown top left against the blue box with the person's name, dates, and relationship.
