Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
I have many Places that were automatically geocoded and marked with the status "Tentative". I have corrected them to give an exact lat and long. They are still marked as "Tentative" and I would like to change their status.
I used the Map menu and chose Geocoding. This gives a list of options including "Unmark as tentative" which seems to be what I want, however all the options are greyed out and inactive. I did have a tentative place record selected at the time. If I show all places on the map, some are tentative (pink box) and some are not (white box) in the left hand window. Again all the geocoding options are inactive.
In case it was something I did, I tried the Sample Project. The geocoding options are inactive there too.
Please - am I doing something wrong? Do other people have active geocoding options?

Welcome to the FHUG.
Those are unusual symptoms, so can I check a few things.
In Tools > Preferences > Map Window do all options have Installation Settings except perhaps Block Refresh for Non-tentative Geocodes may be ticked, which is advisable.
When you say "all the Geocoding options are inactive" does that include Remove Geocoding, Refresh Geocoding, etc?
If you could post a screen-shot it would help confirm exactly what you can see.
Use the Attachments tab below the Post a reply text box to Add files.
How long have you been using FH?

Have you tried right-clicking on a place in the list and then selecting Geocoding from the pop-up menu?

Ah! That could be it Peter, if there is no Fact selected in the list below, then the Map > Geocoding option is inactive.

Yes, and a tick in the box does not imply selected. Multiple records can be selected as usual by using shift or ctrl plus enter.

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
Thank you for the amazingly fast response.
First I must apologise. I thought that I had version 7, but on checking I find that it is version 6.2.2. I shall update my profile. I'm really sorry for your wasted time in looking for solutions in version 7.
Here is the place list with a right click on Dinas Cross. No Geocoding option. Maybe that was added for version 7. Here is what I get from using the Map menu and looking at Geocoding. To the best of my belief I had Dinas Cross selected - its property box was showing. Hope the attachments work.
I have been using Family Historian for a while - can't remember exactly when I bought it. It was the time when there was the big row between Ancestry and the Family Tree Maker users. 2015? I decided to try different software, looked at a few and chose FH. An excellent decision. I love the queries, but I know that there are many features I have not yet explored.

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
You need to select the place(s) again in the list on the left hand side in the Map Window itself. Geocoding options should then be available.
In fact your second screen shot shows Dinas with a tick in a white box, which means that it is already non- tentative. (Pink box means tentative.)
As Mike said in his first post, it is advisable use Tools > Preferences > Map Window to Block Refresh for Non-tentative Geocodes, if that is not already set. This will ensure that these places are not then acidentally altered in the future.
By the way, the latest version of FH is 6.2.2. There is no version 7 (yet!)

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
Don't worry, you did not mention V7. Anyway it does not exist yet, and V6.2.2 is the latest & greatest.
Selecting records in the Places tab of the Records Window has no affect on the Map Window.
You have to select the Dina Cross, ... place-name in the Map Window.
The ticks are for Marker Set management and not Geocoding features.
So click on the Dina Cross, ... entry to highlight it and then the Map > Geocoding options work.
That way you can select multiple place-names and adjust them all with one command.
Alternatively, just right-click on one place-name and choose the options from the popup context menu.
For places that do not geocode in FH using its Edina geocoder you could try the Map Life Facts Plugin.
It has many features, and in one mode it can synchronise with your Place record geocodings.
See its Help & Advice and the F.A.Q. for more details, or just ask here.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but if you display the map with the list of places down the side, by clicking the place name, and dragging and dropping the place onto the correct spot on the map will also add or correct the geocode of the place, which is something that was pointed out to me quite recently. Especially great for those placenames with a '?' which geocode couldn't find!
It comes in very handy when the auto-geocode places the marker in the wrong place, and the correct place is off the screen somewher. Just get the correct place onto the screen, then rather than drag the marker, drag and drop the name onto it instead. It is certainly a lot easire than dragging the marker.
The trouble with FH, is that there are multiple ways to do everything, and when we discover one way of doing something, we tend to stick with it through thick and thin, never thinking there might be a better way of doing it
Apologies to all, if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs.

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
Thank you all. I didn't understand that you had to select it in the Map window as well as selecting it before you went there. Lorna's direction finally did the trick. Options are now enabled. I have learned a lot along the way as well.
Yes, it was not the best choice of place for the illustration to choose one that is not tentative - I thought that after I had posted. Also a good idea to stop the geocode being changed after I have painstakingly found the exact locations. I shall do it.
My profile defaulted to version 7 - how odd. I'm glad to know that I still have the latest available version.
Oh, and I just saw Gowermick's new post. I didn't know about that feature until today when I found a mention while looking for anything that might be relevant to my problem. I must remember and use it. So true about finding one method and sticking to it.
Again, grateful thanks to all three. (no, now four!)

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
I see what you mean about selecting a Place in the Records Window to show it in the Map Window and have to select it all over again.
Perhaps you have not realised you can select Places for the Map Window several different ways.
You can select an Individual and then show all their Places in the Map Window.
Or you can simply show ALL the Places in the Map Window.
Check the options on the Map Window red pin icon in the main toolbar.
With multiple Places in the Map Window the options need to know which one(s) to work on.

Re: Changing the status of a Place that is currently Tentative
It makes perfect sense now that you point it out. It's one of those things that are obvious once you know but baffling when you don't. I have now removed Tentative status for all the places that I have located, many of them remote farmhouses. Delighted.
