Can Fact Definition Auto-Create Note create a multi-line note?
I have a question about the Auto-Create Note option in the advanced Fact Definition. I would like to auto create a note that has the following for example:
Ship Name:
Destination:
Others:
I can't figure out how to get this to be on three different lines rather than all on one line when the note is created. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Bill

I just copied what you wanted from your post above into the Auto-Create Note field and it worked OK with one item on each line in the Note when I added the relevant fact to an individual.

Peter, thanks for the reply. I can't believe I didn't try that.
I had tried typing it into the text box and couldn't get it to go to a new line. I never tried cut and paste.
Thanks

You can type the required data instead, but you need to use ctrl+enter rather than enter to get a new line.

Good to know. I tried Alt-Enter which is what is used in Microsoft Excel, but that didn't work either. How did you know to use Ctrl-Enter? I looked in the Help, but I couldn't find anything.
Thanks

Ctrl+Return/Enter is the way to enter a line break in word-processors.
As oppose to Return/Enter that creates a new Paragraph.
BTW: I presume you are creating meta-fields as per how_to:narrative_report_fact_sentence_templates|> Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates under Custom Fact Fields?

Re: Can Fact Definition Auto-Create Note create a multi-line note?
I didn't know that as I never use it in Word. Good to know.
Yes... I am playing around with that. I've used labeled text in notes for some of my facts, but it was a real pain to have to enter them by hand. Somehow I ran across this option to auto-create the notes and it is great.
I do have a related question. Is there a way to go back and add the same auto-text to all of the facts that already exist. For example, for immigration and emigration I've settled on adding:
Ship name:
Others:
to the auto-create. I would like to add these two lines and a following blank line to the top of the note field for all of my existing emigration and immigration facts? Is there an easy way? I know I can use a named list and do them one at a time, but I have a fair number of them.
Thanks

Re: Can Fact Definition Auto-Create Note create a multi-line note?
In a word-processor, because it does not end the paragraph, the text after a line break keeps the same format.
i.e. The same Font style, same Justification (Left, Centre, Right), same Margins, etc.
I will add the tip about Auto-Create Note and Ctrl-Enter to the Knowledge Base.
No, the only bulk edit would require a Plugin, and probably not worth the effort.
You can do better than a Named List, by running the Standard Query > All Events and sort by Event Type.
Then double-click on each Event cell (6th column) for Emigration and Immigration events to open the Event and Paste directly into the Note.
You don't even need to close the Property Box in between.
So it is only a double-click and right-click Paste for each one.
Alternatively, could use a plain text editor such as Notepad and search for each 1 EMIG and 1 IMMI fact and paste in the Note text, but it is a different edit when there is no existing Note than when there is a Note.

I thought as much. I agree that a plugin is probably overkill at this point. I will use your suggestion, it is a bit easier.
Thanks!
