Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
What about Step 6 that usually comes between Step 5 and Step 7 in my book?

Ooops! I'm so looking forward to getting this done!
Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
All done, and no problems.
Now for Step 7!
To run Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings - it is installed on my C drive on the main computer. If I click on it, I'm told there is already a Plugin of that name.
So, to run it, what do I do?

Yes, you said yesterday you had installed it on both PC.
You run it the same as yesterday, in FH use Tools > Plugins, select the plugin name and click Run.
Take great care to follow the instructions in Step 7 and the on screen instructions for the Restore operation, especially after the Registry Data Keys option.

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Do I close FH immediately after I press the Restore tab or do I wait a while?
Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
It's saying
Backup Data Missing
Error: Backup Data Folder has no Family Historian backup data saved.

On the Options tab did you Choose Backup Folder as F:\...\Family Historian Projects\FH Settings 2017-02-23 folder?
And tick the Allow Restore Registry Data option?
Then on Restore tab, click the big red Restore... button, then the green buttons that appear below.

Yes, on my F drive I have the following:
But if I search my Documents for Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings it shows them
F:\Documents\Family Historian Projects\A.... DAT file 747bytes
F:\Documents\Family Historian Projects\FH Settings... DAT file 56 bytes
F:\Documents\Family Historian Projects\FH Settings.. Windows batch file 282 bytes
F:\Documents\Family Historian Projects\FH Settings..Family Historian Plugin (Lua) 248 bytes

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Ok - I didn't select that particular file, just the overall folder.
Now do I press all the buttons? - i.e.
Tutorial files in green
Program data files in green
Registry Data keys in green

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
I'm getting this:
Restore Old File : Fact Types\Standard\GroupIndex.fhdata
Warning: Backup Data file modified 23/02/2017 22:43:01
is older than Program Data File modified 24/02/2017 21:01:21
Either copy old Backup Data File over newer Program Data File, or keep the newer Program Data Files?
Then I have green tabs:
Copy Old Backup Data File Keep New Program Data File Copy All Old Files Keep All New Files
Boy, this is complicated!

It is just warning that the backup data is older than the current data, and so usually you would want to keep the newest.
Choose Keep All New Files and all will be Ok.

Thanks, Mike.
Now another message:
Delete File: General\gedcom_map.fhdata
Warning: the file does not exist in the Backup Data folder.
Should the file dated 19/02/2016 ... be deleted from the Program Data folder?

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
I have this message so I closed the program as prompted:
Close Program
Warning - Ensure Family Historian is closed before restoring its Registry Keys data. Otherwise the restored Registration Keys will be overwritten when the program is closed. After clicking on "Quit Plugin" the Plugin will close to let you close the program. The Reg Import dialogue will remain open after Family Historian is closed.
I have turned off Family Historian and now a black panel has come up:
REG IMPORt: "F:\My Documents (New)\Family Historian Projects\ Family Historian Settings 2017-23-02\Family Historian\Reigstry. Keys"
So I chose to import the Registry Keys. Family Historian is closed and nothing else is happening now!
Is that the end of the process?

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Yes, well done.
You might want to check that any FH customisations to Diagrams, Reports, Queries, etc, that you may have made are now working on the new PC as they did on the old PC.
Did you migrate Ancestral Sources satisfactorily?
Thinking about backups, do you backup your Mirror Disk contents to anywhere else?
If not, how would you feel if it crashed irreparably and you lost all its files?

Phew, many thanks, Mike.
I haven't been using Ancestral Sources, although I did look at it once.
I will back up my Family Historian content on my Mirror Drive today onto a USB. I am also going to buy another backup device just for my family history.
My mirror drive (1TB) is actually almost full as I have downloaded so many images (PRs, countless wills, etc). So I am going to keep it but also use my new computer and other backup devices. As my daughter also does the family history I shall get her to keep copies too.
There are many features on Family Historian I would love to use but I find the technical side of it rather challenging, as you can see!
Mike, I'd like to thank you for your patience in guiding me through this. I don't know how I would have coped otherwise. I had assistance in setting up the computer as an extra from John Lewis, so that was fine, but it was my genealogy transfer I was most concerned about.
Again, many thanks.

Glad to have helped. I know migrating to a new PC can be challenging.
