Yes, you only need to do it once.
No problem, if you run into any more questions please ask.

Many thanks again, Bill. I will complete the switch-over tomorrow.
You have been very helpful.

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Hopefully I can work on my new PC now.
On my mirror drive I now have downloaded FH settings 2017-02-23 with a sub-folder Family Historian containing Application, Program Data, Tutorial Files, Registry Keys and Version.data.
Hopefully that is enough to complete the switch-over.

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Please could someone help me with Step 5:
"On the new PC ensure the File > Project Window > Location: and the Tools > Preferences > Default Startup File and Default Backup Folder are specified correctly as these settings are NOT included in the Migration Data."
I have Family Historian open and I assume it is about the Project Window there but how do I check how it is specified?

I suspect that in the File > Project Window the Location: is set to the default Documents\Family Historian Projects.
You must change that to refer to your Mirror Drive (J drive) where your Projects are located as per the old PC.
Click on Documents\Family Historian Projects and select Choose Location and browse to the Family Historian Projects folder or whatever you called it on Mirror Drive (J drive). That is NOT the folder with your project name, but the one above it.
When your Projects are listed, right-click your Project name and choose Set as Default Project.
That is the same as using Tools > Preferences > Startup > Default Startup File.
Use Tools > Preferences > Backup > Default Backup Folder and set that to where you keep your FH Backups on Mirror Drive (J drive) just as on old PC.

Is this on the C: drive on the new computer or the mirror drive on the new computer (J drive on old computer, F drive on new computer?

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Sorry, disregard the last post.
I'm on Family Historian on my new computer and have now found the Choose Location button and have now selected Family Historian Projects on the mirror drive (F drive).
I assume I choose my main project, which I have done. However, when I right click I don't get the option to set this a my default project.

In the File > Project Window, right-click on your main project name listed in the Family Historian Projects list and tick Set as Default Project. Don't right-click anywhere else, it must be on the name of your main project.
Alternatively, left-click on your main project name so it is highlighted in blue. Then use More Tasks... button and tick Set as Default Project.
When that has be set successfully, then whenever you open FH it should automatically open your main project.

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
The only project on Family Historian on my new computer at present is the Family Historian Sample Project. The others aren't there yet.
Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
I have got to install the projects from the mirror drive onto Family Historian, I think. They are on the mirror drive but not installed on Family Historian yet. I ignored step 4 but I think I need to carry the files across myself?

No, you do NOT need to carry any files anywhere, but just tell FH where they are as described below.
You would have done that on old PC, but perhaps have forgotten, when you moved to using the J drive.
I must say a I am confused, because earlier you said you had found your main project.
What you see is the default installed state, because most users would want to use their Documents folder on the C: drive, and FH creates the Sample Project by default to give new users something to practise on.
In the File > Project Window the Location: is set to the default Documents\Family Historian Projects on C: drive.
You must change that to refer to your Mirror Drive (F drive) where your Projects are located similar to the old PC.
Click on Documents\Family Historian Projects and select Choose Location and browse to the Family Historian Projects folder or whatever you called it on Mirror Drive (F drive). That is NOT the folder with your project name, but the one above it.

Thanks, I feel really stupid about this but I really don't do tasks like this normally.
I have got Family Historian Projects up now. Do I need to right click on my main project now?

Yes please, and don't forget to set the Default Backup Folder too as described earlier.

If I right-click there is no prompt to set it as default.
I haven't performed anything relating to Step 5 "... and the Tools > Preferences > Default Startup File and Default Backup Folder.
I can't open this while I have the "Choose Location" box open so do I do it afterwards?

The Choose Location dialogue should not still be open.
Have you found the Family Historian Projects folder on the Mirror Disk F: drive?
If so, then select it so highlighted in blue, and click OK to close the dialogue.
Then your main project should be listed in the Family Historian Projects list in the top pane.
If it is NOT listed there, then you have not selected correctly in the Choose Location dialogue.
So you must left-click on the blue entry next to Location: and try again.

Where do I click OK? I can't see this when I right click on Family Historian Projects on my F drive. It is highlighted in blue.

Left-click on blue path to right of Location: and select Choose Location.
In that dialogue find the Family Historian Projects folder on F: drive and click OK.

I was confused as I thought I wasn't meant to be on Family HIstorian but on the F drive!
Now my projects are listed.
Do I have to do anything in Tools as in Step 5? I note you can't use this unless a Project is open.

Have you right-clicked your main project and ticked Set as Default?
Then checked that FH initially opens that project automatically?
Have you used Tools > Preferences > Backup > Default Backup Folder and used <<Select to browse to where your Backup folder is located on the F: drive?

Re. the first point - yes, my main project opens automatically now.
Re. the second point - I have got this open so I can see Browse for Folder. Am I supposed to select Family Historian Projects and click on OK at the bottom?

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
Possibly, but only you know where you have been saving your FH backups over the years.
What Mirror Disk folder contains your FH backup Compressed (zipped) Folder files with names like :-
FH Gedcom Backup - <your-project-name> - 2015-12-30 1540
FH Project Backup - <your-project-name> - 2016-11-14 1825
I can only presume that you have been saving those FH Backups somewhere on your Mirror Disk.
What folder did you use for the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin?

On my F drive (mirror drive) under Family Historian Projects I have saved my named projects, FH Settings 2017-02-23, and FH Gedcom Backup for all the various projects.

So you can OK the Default Backup Folder as the Family Historian Projects folder on F: drive.
Have you installed Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings in your new PC?
If not, then do so in the same way as you did on old PC.

Thanks, Mike, I have OKed the Default Backup Folder.
Yes, as reported above I have got Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings in Downloads on my C drive on my new computer.
Edit: In fact, I have moved it across to Documents - Family Historian Projects so that all my Family Historian files area together.
Should I run the Plugin now as in Step 7 or is there anything else I should do?
