Custom Fact Type (Attribute) Syntax Problem

Post by NigelBrown » 20 Jan 2017 17:42

I have constructed a custom attribute fact type for Admons i.e. no will made so letters of administration. I use the value element to record the value of the estate. It mostly reads well, but with one problem.

The sentence template is: {individual} left no Will and {date} Letters of Administration were granted by the {_place} Probate Registry to dispose of {individual's} estate<, which was valued at {value}>. <{role(single)=administrator} was appointed administrator. ><{role(plural)=administrator} were appointed administrators. >

An example of the resulting output is: "Benjamin left no Will and on 8 February 1941 Letters of Administration were granted by the Birmingham Probate Registry. The value of Benjamin estate was £76. His parents John William Raybould and Florence Baker were appointed administrators."

The inexplicable (to me) part of this result is that it says "Benjamin estate" and not "Benjamin's estate" (or "his estate" would be OK). Added to which, FH has created a new sentence for this grammatically incorrect bit of information, which is not such a problem, but still I fail to understand why it should choose to do this.

What am I doing wrong?

The sentence produced bears only limited resemblance to the Sentence Template.

1) The expected default Sentence from Template :-
"Benjamin left no Will and on 8 February 1941 Letters of Administration were granted by the Birmingham Probate Registry to dispose of his estate, which was valued at £76. John William Raybould and Florence Baker were appointed administrators."

2) Your quoted sentence :-
"Benjamin left no Will and on 8 February 1941 Letters of Administration were granted by the Birmingham Probate Registry. The value of Benjamin estate was £76. His parents John William Raybould and Florence Baker were appointed administrators."

So the first thing to check is the background colour of the specific Admon Attribute fact Sentence box.
Is it beige or is it white?
1) If beige, then it is derived from the default Sentence Template and should look like 1) above.
2) If white, then you have edited that specific Sentence to produce your quoted sentence as 2) above.
If the latter is the case, then delete the entire contents of that Sentence box and it will revert to default.
See how_to:narrative_report_fact_sentence_templates|> Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates for full details.

OR, possibly you have changed the default Sentence Template and the Admon fact has not caught up.
Try choosing a different fact and go back to the Admon fact. Is it OK now?

MIke,

Thank you once again. Yes, I had clean forgotten that I had edited that specific Sentence. I think I meant to make the corresponding change to the Sentence Template but my attention was diverted from doing so. Also, I had not previously realised the significance of the beige or white background colour, in fact I don't think I had noticed this helpful feature.
