I want to create a Descendant Diagram for my grandmother to show her whole extended family. The problem I have is that some of her children/grandchildren have been married more than once and I want to hide their ex partners without hiding the children of the marriage (the living are much more difficult than the dead!)
I will demonstrate the problem with some Diagrams from a test file. This is the entire family showing John and Mary Brown's son Andrew with his two wives and one child by each. I created the family with just John Brown, opened a Descendant Diagram and dragged to add all the others as on the left below. As he has divorced Catherine I then hide her on the Diagram to get the one on the right where I can still see Brian, which is what I want.
However if I now go back to John Brown's record and create a new Descendant Diagram I get the Diagram on the left below with Andrew's wives either side of him (which is what is set in the Spouse layout options in Diagram Options). If I now hide Catherine in this Diagram Brian gets hidden as well, as on the right.
Does anyone know why this is happening and I how I can make it so that I just hide the ex partner but still show the children of the union? I have the same problem for several of my grandmother's descendants so I need a generic solution not just one for this particular case.
For reference these are the Diagram Options.

Re: Children of ex partners in Diagrams
I would say that the solution is not to hide the truth. Divorced parents are still blood relatives of their children no matter what happened to their relationship after the birth of the children.

I have answered my own question. If I set Spouse options to all Spouses on the right then I can hide ex partners without hiding the children.

I would prefer that but as I said the living are more difficult than the dead.trevorrix wrote:I would say that the solution is not to hide the truth. Divorced parents are still blood relatives of their children no matter what happened to their relationship after the birth of the children.
