Copy person from gedcom file to project

Post by Klaus Yde » 21 Dec 2016 10:23

Is there an easy method to copy just one person from a gedcom file into my main project? Of cause I can export the person to a one person gedcom file and merge the person into my project. That is not difficult but is time consuming ;-(.

Kind regards

The short answer is 'no' you cannot copy & paste an Individual record.

Part of the reason is how would linked Media records, Place records, and Source Citations be handled?
Should they be included in the copy & paste or not?
A related consequence is how the Record Id should be handled. What if there already exists a conflicting Record Id for an Individual, Media, Place, or Source record in the main Project. Should they be merged or renumbered?

If it is something you expect to do often, then a custom Plugin might offer a solution, and could offer options to cope with conflicting Record Id. However, it is not trivial as Plugins usually only operate with one Gedcom/Project at a time.

Thanks for the prompt answer. I had the suspicion that it was so - sigh.

Kind regards
