Coloured arrows - interpretation

Post by Klaus Yde » 12 Dec 2016 09:56

I have just got a new gedcom file with some new members of my family. But when I open the file there is a lot of Coloured arrows. We are two family members working with the same family and both using FH6.2.

I interpret the arrows as errors because of one or more duplicate persons in the tree.

My colleague says it is because FH6.2 is not able to draw the tree correctly with out making duplicates.

What is the correct interpretation of the coloured arrows?

The gedcom file can be downloaded here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/199 ... %20YDE.ged

Kind regards

The coloured ribbons are shown in Diagrams where it has been necessary to show the same person in two boxes.
There is no duplication of data records, just the same person appearing twice in the Diagram.
If you want to hide them then review Diagram > Options > General tab Check for duplicates and Options button.

It is caused by the marriage of cousins or other relations with common ancestors.
I have simplified your Diagram shown below.
Hans Christian HENRIKSEN married Mette ESPENSDATTER and his mother is her aunt Maren PEDERSDATTER.
Also Espen NELSON married Bereth PEDERSDATTER and have Kirsten MOGENSDATTER in common.

Thanks a lot - we have used several hours each trying to find out what was "wrong"

Kind regards
