Family Event entry

Post by E Wilcock » 09 Dec 2016 09:39

Apologies Mike but I am in difficulty with a Family event for which I have no family.

A woman was engaged to a political dissident.
For this reason she was herself arrested and sent to a prison.

I tried to enter her engagement and FH wont let me. What do FH users do?

I really dont want to create an individual called Unknown Unknown. Because I will end up with a lot of them.
I could used my Event Misc Event -
But she is engaged and sooner or later, he may turn up.

Which leads to a subsequent question. Can one change an Event type in the individual Events list in FH? In TMG one could alter the Tag type later and after one had entered the data for date, place etc.

Although not exactly as yours, I needed to add an Engagement for a relation who subsequently died (in the war) before they could get married. I created the Family (via the menu option "Add Family as Spouse") with an Engagement Event to record the base details (with a Note to the effect that my relation died before any marriage). A family event does not have to have two Individuals in it.

By "Event Type" do you mean Fact (eg Birth, Death, Cremation, etc). You cannot change the Fact Type directly but there is a Plugin "Change Any Fact Tag" which does the trick.

You can add the standard Engagement fact in the usual way via the woman's Facts tab Add Fact button More Fact Types...
In the Fact Types dialogue select Engagement and click Add button.
In the Select Family dialogue click New as the note at the top advises.
In the Create Family Record dialogue leave Husband/Male Partner blank, click Create and OK warning.
That is it. At what point are you saying FH won't let you?

Yes, my Change Any Fact Tag Plugin can alter any Fact Type Tag either globally or for selected records, and retains all the associated data.
