How to Merge Address with Place
Hello,
I believe this is a quite simple question, but I am struggling to find any previous answer in our forum.
How do I merge Address and Place together?
I just want to merge, no need to add commas, spaces, or anything like this....
PLACE = ADDRESS, PLACE
I have tried using the plugin Rearrange Address and Place Parts. It looks very powerful, but I am not getting there...

Hi Pedro,
Before you do anything make absolutely certain you have good backups of your Project Gedcom.
Otherwise, if the results are not what you expected it may be tricky to get back where you started.
Can you explain what is the purpose of that change, as it may not be necessary.
Do read through the Plugin Help and Advice pages, and take note of what the Result Set says about resulting Divergent Cloned Place Names because for every merged Address, Place a new Place record will be created.
For sake of argument let us assume you have 5 Address Columns and 3 Place Columns.
Thus, you will need 8 Place Columns to perform the Merge.
So in Tools > Work with Data > Places you must increase Columns to 8.
In Plugin start by using Shift all Places Right 5 times to create the <blank> Columns for the Address Parts.
Then click on each <blank> and select Address 1, then Address 2, etc, five times.
If you want the Address field emptied then click Delete all Address column parts entirely.
Finally, click PERFORM REARRANGEMENT of Parts.

Re: How to Merge Address with Place
Hi Mike,
Well, I kind of gave up using addresses and I believe I will handle better using only places in my files.
Regarding columns, I do not have any strong rule for Addresses and Places.
My data covers many different countries, so for each one the amount of columns varies.
That is why I just want concatenate the address text before the place it is related....
Is this possible?

Re: How to Merge Address with Place
OK, follow my earlier instructions using the number of Columns you have specified in Tools > Work with Data > Places & Addresses respectively.
After the merge, the Plugin will automatically tidy up any empty columns as explained in Help and Advice.
You did read the Help and Advice I hope?

Re: How to Merge Address with Place
Hi Mike,
I believe I have managed to get the results as you explained.
I removed the prefix, and so on.
But now I have mane place with extra commas.. even before the places?
How do I remove them?

Re: How to Merge Address with Place
Sorry, I forgot it would leave those extra commas for empty columns.
It should be possible to fix with the Search and Replace Plugin but is complicated by the Place records structure. So let me check exactly how to do it and I will post again tomorrow.
