Custom Views Suggestions

FH users have mentioned that they work from a variety of open windows, e.g. without the Focus Window.

I wonder if it would be possible for people to post screenshots or descriptions of the view they normally like to have on screen as they work?

For instance, my own data entry has been transformed by putting the source window to the right of the property box (i.e. not underneath it).

In TMG, this arrangement was known as a Layout and could be customised and saved. Experts there did post screen shots and guidance on how they liked to use the software.

I would appreciate the same sort of guidance for FH.

This not so much advise about what 'Layout' to use as to what options are possible. In each case click Help for advice.

You have found Tools > Preferences > Property Box > Preferred Position for Source Pane.

Also Tools > Preferences > Workspaces adjusts how types of Window and Property Box are presented.

The Window > Cascade and Tile Horizontally and Tile Vertically can be useful.

Unfortunately, FH does not preserve Window 'Layouts' when it is closed.
See Wish List Ref 534 Preserve all Workspace and Window Characteristics and Vote.

Screenshot showing how I work. I don't use the source pane in FH because the linked images indicated by the icons in the diagram are original source images that contain the information.

My layout is similar to Trevor's but I don't use icons under the diagram boxes. I include census information in the text scheme, including place and address. I normally keep the Source pane open below the Property Box.

I do use quite a big screen - it might be more difficult on a laptop.

I have FH set to open on the Records window instead of the Focus window, which I rarely use.

Clicking on a box in the diagram switches the Property box to that individual.
Children or spouses can be added by clicking on a box in the diagram and sliding the mouse down or sideways. If you are using an ancestor diagram you can add parents by clicking and sliding upwards (as long as you have the diagram options set to allow the necessary number of generations to be displayed).

I have recently moved across from TMG and tried various screen layouts. I have settled on the one shown for the moment, probably because it is closer to TMG and I use a lap top with a wide screen. I have reduced the font sizes in the Focus window. The great beauty of FH is its flexibility in this respect, I only wish it opened on the last person worked on as TMG did, but I do note that is on the wish list. I find being able to flick to the Records window very helpful and it is so quick and easy to change the order.
