Deleting person in diagram
I have inadvertently doubled up on the wife of gentleman and her children. Therefore the diagram shows two windows with the wife and two sections showing the same children. I cannot send a picture as the file is too small . Sorry. Hopefully you understand what I mean!!!
How do I get rid of the duplicate without getting rid of the original?
Many thanks for any help

Re: Deleting person in diagram
I suspect you have done a merge and not merged the Family Records. Have you looked at

Re: Deleting person in diagram
Before you do anything I advise you use File > Backup/Restore > Small Backup just in case things go wrong.
Do the duplicates (wife, husband, children) have the same Record Id or are they different?
To find out, double-click on each Diagram box in turn to open their Property Box and look on the All tab, where it shows the Record Id near the top.
If the duplicates have the same Record Id then Jane's advice will work OK.
Otherwise, you can find the duplicates in the Records Window, probably the ones with the higher Record Id, and delete them.

Re: Deleting person in diagram
I assume you meant the Records and not the files. If you had both an individual and a family record you will need to merge both.merge the files and get rid of the name box

Re: Deleting person in diagram
If you could post a screenshot of the Diagram or the Focus Window for the duplicated family of Individuals it would be so much easier to help you.
Also a summary of what you did to get into the situation would help.
Did you just manually enter some new Individuals, or Merge some Gedcom, or what?
It would also help if you explained precisely what you have discovered about things like Record Id and what commands you have tried to use to fix the problem. Obviously, you know what you found and what you did, but unfortunately we cannot read your mind. You have to gives us some clues either with screenshots or detailed descriptions.

Re: Deleting person in diagram
Ok here is a screen shot -(I've just learnt how to do it!!)
The blank square (I removed all the information in an attempt to get rid of the box) on the right has a number 374 and Elisabeth Rawes on the left has a number 372.Everyone else is the same number.
I think I tried to merge two Gedcom files and this is one of the results.
Obviously I am looking to get rid of the duplication somehow!
Hope that helps!!

Re: Deleting person in diagram
You need to merge the two records for Elizabeth and then merge the family records, have you watched the video I linked to yesterday?

Re: Deleting person in diagram
When merging Gedcom the Merge/Compare dialogue has many tabs across the top for each type of record such as Individuals, Families, Notes, Sources, etc, and rows for each specific record. If you don't carefully consider each row and each tab then you will end up with this kind of disruption to your Project.
Now let's fix the problem.
The children & grandchildren linked by coloured ribbons are identical records with same Record Id so don't need adjusting.
There are three Individuals with different Record Id that need to be deleted:
1) Elisabeth RAWES blank box Record Id 374 (duplicate of Elisabeth RAWES Record Id 372)
2) Her son John KEW on right with no spouse or children (duplicate of John KERR on left)
3) Her son Allstair KEW on right with no children (duplicate of Allstair KERR on left)
If you agree with that analysis then proceed as follows to delete all three:
Open the Focus Window with Donald KERR as the Focus person.
That will display him with both Wives (372 & 374) and both sets of Children.
Click Customize View... at top and ensure Record Ids is ticked and click OK.
Right-click on the son John KEW and choose Delete Record.
Right-click on the son Allstair KEW and choose Delete Record.
Right-click on their mother blank box [374] and choose Delete Record.
That will have removed the problem,

Hi there
When Donald is in the focus window he and Elisabeth are alone as a pair. When Elisabeth is in the focus window we get both sets of families.
Shall I proceed as per your instructions?

Please click Customize View... at top and ensure Record Ids is ticked and click OK.
That will display the [Record Id] in the Focus Window for each person and help identify who is who.
From your screen-shots, it is clear that it is Donald KERR who is duplicated in the Blank box.
In all displays I bet that Elisabeth Mabel RAWES is always Record Id [372]?
If that is as I suspect, then delete records as I described before, but it will the father blank box [374] to delete last.

Re: Deleting person in diagram
It is the same as before.
The ones connected by coloured ribbons are caused by the duplicated Fiona Penelope NAIRNE [15] & Fiona Penelope NAIRN [332].
So as before show George Edward GREENWOOD [4] in Focus Window.
Then right-click unwanted spouse Fiona Penelope NAIRN [332] and Delete Record.
If as we suspect, you have not Merged Gedcoms correctly, you are going to have a LOT of these to do.
It may be easier to Restore to your Backup of the original Project and Merge the Gedcom properly.
You did make a Backup before you started I hope!!
BTW: Yes you could also find the the two Family records involved and Edit > Merge them as Jane suggests.
But you have to get them the right way round or you could finish up with Fiona Penelope having the wrong surname, etc.
