Merging Source Records

Post by Colin_McCullough » 23 Nov 2016 22:23

Hi Folks
First time poster
I am reasonably new to Family Historian . I GED com transferred from Legacy to FH and now love it :) and getting around it quite well 3000 people now in FH on completion of GED com . No major problems encountered
However one query now. Sorting out my sources and citations
Now i have scenario of after combining two data bases having in some cases two headings meaning same thing and having same text in them
I know how to rename etc and delete an empty source
But how can i or is there a way of
[1] To get a list of which persons any source is allocated to
[2] Merge the two sources together if possible

Can someone help me here as i cannot seem to get right thing in knowledge Base??
Thanking you

Welcome to the FHUG Colin.

When you combined the two data bases did you use File > Merge/Compare File?
If so, you should have been able to merge similar Source records on the Sources tab.

[1] To find Citations of a Source see how_to:find_links_to_source|> How do I find out which individuals have links to a particular source? especially under Version 5+ Plugins.

[2] To merge any two records, first select the two records and then use Edit > Merge/Compare Records. To select two Source records use the Records Window and on the Sources tab, select one record and then hold Ctrl key while selecting the other. Alternatively, you can select just one record, then use the Edit > Merge/Compare Records command, and select the other record in the Select Records to be Merged dialogue. It is advisable to make a Backup of at least your Gedcom beforehand, just in case!

As a newcomer I advise you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and from there branch out into the rest of the Knowledge Base.
