How to Wrap around text on a new tab in the property box

Post by rfj1001 » 23 Nov 2016 17:35

I've been following the info in the KB on To Do lists in order to create a new tab with a large note box.

I've now got my nice new tab with a nice large property box that accepts text in the correct field - so far so good :)

Unfortunately, any text entered neither wraps around nor can I do a <CR> to start a new para. :(

Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve both problems.

The current settings in the Custom Item box (Part 1 only - no part 2) are

Indent 0
Alignment Group 1 1
Fixed width - unticked
Variable height - ticked
Min width 50
Vertical weight 5
Percent 50
Label above data - unticked

Many thanks

Robin

That is rather mysterious Robin.
I have exactly the same custom tab settings, and it works just find in FH V5.0 and V6.2 on both Vista and Windows 10.

What happens to very long text lines if they do not wrap onto the next line?

To start a new paragraph just use the Newline or Enter key as you would in any other Note field.

What happens if you click on the [...] button on the right hand side?

What Data Reference are you using?
Mine is INDI._ATTR-TO_DO[1].NOTE2[1]

I have just thought. Maybe you are using INDI._ATTR-TO_DO[1] which refers to the attribute value, which is only short text.
If so add the .NOTE2[1] reference to the Note field.

That is why I provide the fhugdownloads:contents:fact_set_to_do_lists|> Fact Set ~ To Do Lists download to avoid such hiccups.

I suspect Mike is correct and you have accidentally selected the value field for the To Do Fact rather than the note, that is a single line field so won't allow multi-line. So double check the field as Mike suggests.

Thanks Jane/Mike,

It was definitely the field that caused the problem. I must have done something wrong early on when I created the attribute as the changes you were both suggesting weren't open to me even after starting from scratch again and recreating the tab.

Pragmatism then took over as I deleted my attempts and downloaded and installed Mike's files that, needless to say, worked first time :)

I am glad that is sorted out to your satisfaction.
I cannot fathom out why you could not add the .NOTE2 tag to the custom attribute, because regardless of how you created it, EVERY event/attribute has a NOTE2 tag representing its Note field, and it will have been available via the <<Select button and the Data Reference Assistant dialogue.
