Can one get a flag or its icon to show in the Focus window?
Find My Past seems to send ikons to that Focus Window box.
Or does a FH ikon show only on the tree diagram? I have created a Flag with an ikon.
Is there any way that one can see instantly that a particular person has a flag attached to them?

Re: Flags
The usual spelling for such things is icons because ikons tend to refer to small religious images.
"Can one get a flag or its icon to show in the Focus window?"
No, not currently.
See Wish List Ref 413 Flags/Icons on the focus window that you can Vote for.
"Find My Past seems to send icons to that Focus Window box."
I suspect you are talking about the green circular hint indicators.
They are not general purpose icons produced directly by FindMyPast or MyHeritage.
They are created by FH in response to communications with FMP & MH regarding record matches.
See how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches.
"Or does a FH icon show only on the tree diagram? I have created a Flag with an icon."
Yes, such icons only show on Diagram boxes, but not only conditional on Flags, as Expressions can also be used (see later).
"Is there any way that one can see instantly that a particular person has a flag attached to them?"
Yes, there are several methods, some built-in and some can be customised.
With Individual of interest selected the following are most popular and first 3 work anywhere not just in Focus Window:
It is usually better to use an Expression to define the criteria to be signalled.
Then Diagram icons are automatically shown without the need to add or remove Flags manually.
See how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions.
BTW: There are dozens of icons to download from fhugdownloads:diagramicons|> Downloads and Links ~ Diagram Icons.

- Use Edit > Records Flags and all their Flags are ticked.
- In Property Box open the All tab and the Flags are listed last.
- It is possible to customise a few Flags on the Main tab, or a large quantity on a custom tab.
- It is possible to customise Flag columns into the Records Window, or simply expand the Individual.
- It is possible to report on Flags with a Query such as the standard Has Flag but others are possible.

Re: Flags
That is brilliant Mike. Thank you. Just having a column in the records list will be fine for me. I have been using that with a (custom) named list. But I will look at all the methods you suggest.
I am sorry about the spelling. I have never been able to spell. My husband has been trying to cure me for fifty years but it is no good. My father was the same. As for ikons being Russian religious images - That makes sense as the Russians use k . But the British Museum site uses the spelling icon for religious images so I suspect icon is the only correct spelling in English.
I did download a suitable icon thank you. And I did study the Help before posting.
But in this case I couldnt make out the information. I read that that Flags had been replaced to some extent by Expressions. But Expressions wasnt a term familiar to me except in filtering a list of people. I suspect they are a more sophisticated way of adding conditions, and maybe differentiate if one has a parent or two parents who carry a particular faulty gene? Plus the gender of the carrier? But I didnt really understand how one could use Expressions to mark individuals instead of Flags. I will go back and study the help.
I need a permanent Thank you note to you. Very grateful for the time you take to teach me how to use FH.

Re: Flags
We did start discussing Expressions in the recent Fact sentence inclusive of source details (14327) posting.
Expressions are a combination of FH Data References and FH Functions that appear in many customisations.
They are nothing specifically to do with genes or gender.
Perhaps a practical example would make the pros and cons of Flags versus Expressions clearer.
You say you already have a custom Flag and Icon.
What are the data criteria that would prompt you to add that Flag to an Individual?
