Removing reviewed Findmypast hints

Post by Frankie1966 » 11 Nov 2016 19:14

I love FMP hints, but have a few irritations.

Once reviewed and accepted - the same hints keep returning - wastes a lot of time re-reviewing the same records. How do I stop them re-appearing once accepted?

I only have a UK subscription, so can't review World hints. However, often it is clear a hint is to be rejected, just from the summary; no need to review. How can these be rejected without reviewing?

Thank you!

Welcome to the FHUG Frankie.

Once Accepted or Rejected those FMP hints should not reappear if you have the default Tools > Preferences > Internet Data Matches settings to show only New hints.

The problem with World hints and only a Britain subscription is a well known niggle.
The only solution offered in the recent Webinar by FMP was to purchase a World subscription!!!!

See how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches and if nothing there sorts out your reappearing hints then ask again.

Thank you so much. I will check my settings which are no doubt set up the wrong way.

I will just have to live with the irritation of the World hints....

If you are switching from PC to PC to run FH then check the advice on User Credentials, which if not followed will cause 'hints' to reappear.

Thanks, Mike - I will check that out. I just recently upgraded to 6.2 having been away from FH for many years - quite a few changes to figure out. :)

In that case you may find how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers a good starting point.

I checked settings - they were as they should be. So I tested this - accepted the hints, they disappeared and did not reappear for a while. Now there are no accepted hints - it shows everything that has already been accepted several times - and they have reappeared.

I don't use FH on more than one PC. But I do use Findmypast on more than one PC. Could that be causing the problem?

I don't think using FMP on different PC should affect FH 'hints'.

If you are not doing anything like restoring Projects from Backup or making major changes to Projects, I cannot explain why 'hints' should reappear for the same Individuals.

Perhaps contact Calico Pie support for guidance.

Just a thought -- do you clear cookies? I've seen hints reappear after I've done that.

Thanks both - no, I'm not doing any of those things - not smart enough / efficient enough (unless delete cookies is set automatically - I am on Windows 10 and it does some things automatically that I can't turn off - I will check that out).

I think this question is related loosely to the topic. I have had to rebuild my PC and all the FMP hints that I have dealt with over the last 1-2 years have reappeared. I used FH settings restore which does not seem to have been the storing point for these hints choices. Does anyone know where they are stored so that I can back them up to prevent this happening again?

See how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches under User Credentials.
Those should be preserved via the Backup and Restore FH Settings Plugin.

It is suspected that hint status is held within the Project in the ...fh_data\Cache\ folder (alongside the Media folder).
So a Medium/Full Project Backup should preserve them.

There is also some suggestion that FMP holds the Accepted/Rejected hint status.

The User Credentials appear to be crucial in matching the hint status to each Project.
