Workhouse list
Hi, I am doing a genealogy course and included in this week's lesson is work on workhouses. For some time now I have been wishing to find all my people who ended in the workhouse. I used the standard query for finding text and brought up a list of people. Is it possible to make a report on the people in the list and where they fit in the family please? (I'm not good at expressions).
I have done a brief list manually, but it would be good to have a properly presented report.
Thank you Ann

Re: Workhouse list
In the Query Result Set if you select all the Individuals and use Publish to choose say Narrative Reports for Individuals, then a report will be produced including all those selected Individuals. The same is the case for other types of report.
I am not sure what you mean by "and where they fit in the family"?
A Narrative Report will identify the Parents, Spouse, and Children of each chosen Individual.
Or do you want to include their Relationship to your Project File Root person?
Or do you want a family tree Diagram with the chosen Individuals highlighted?

Re: Workhouse list
Hi Mike, thank you for your reply. What I wanted was both your suggestions really, giving their relatives as you suggest but it would also be good to give the relationship to our son, who is the root person of my program. A couple of the people are obvious direct line, but a couple are siblings of related families and I cannot always remember which line they are related to.
I am not bothered about diagrams for this topic. What I really wanted was a topic of 'workhouse', which I could perhaps add to as I find more people in the institution.
Thank you once again.
Regards Ann

Re: Workhouse list
OK, assuming you are happy with Narrative Reports then you can include the relationship between each selected Individual and your FileRoot() in the bold heading at the top of their page.
Use Report > Options > Format tab, select Record under Heading near bottom and click Edit button.
It should show the default Heading Text as %INDI.NAME:ADORNED% (=LifeDates2())
i.e. The person's adorned Name and their life dates in brackets.
Append to that =CombineText(,Relationship(FileRoot())," of " . FileRoot(),)
So the whole Heading Text becomes:
%INDI.NAME:ADORNED% (=LifeDates2()) =CombineText(,Relationship(FileRoot())," of " . FileRoot(),)
The =CombineText(...) function checks if Relationship(FileRoot(),%INDI%) supplies a relationship, and if it does then suffixes that with " of " and the name of your FileRoot(). If there is no such relationship then the =CombineText(...) function displays nothing.

Re: Workhouse list
Ann, once you have a suitably customised the Narrative Report format, then use Save Report As > Custom Report Type and give it a Custom Report Name such as Individual Narrative Workhouse.
Thereafter, to obtain such reports use Publish > Custom Reports > Individual Narrative Workhouse or whatever name you choose.
Remember to reset the standard Individual Narrative report Options on the Format tab to Installation Settings and likewise for any other tabs you customised.
