Deletion of Individual Record

Post by David Potter » 20 Oct 2016 15:02

Hi Forum.

Requesting help with clarification on the following:

If I open up the Property Box for an Individual by double clicking the Individual from the Record List. And then click the Blue Up Arrow to navigate to the Parents. And then choose Edit > Delete. The deletion confirmation states the person chosen from the Record List not the person now shown on the screen will be deleted. Is this right that it should work this way.

Even if I try to make the parent the Focus Person - this reverts back to the person chosen from the Records List and not the parent now on screen?

Many Thanks.

David

The Delete will work on the currently selected record which may not be the current Property Box contents.

I suspect you are using the Focus button on the main toolbar which works on the selected record like Delete.
But if you use the Display in Focus Window magnifying-glass icon next to blue Up to Parents arrow in Property Box toolbar, that will not only put them into Focus but also select them so the Delete will work as you expected.

However, when managing family relationships like that you would be advised to use the Focus Window right-click options as per how_to:removing_unwanted_relations|> Removing Unwanted Relations and other topics in that Relationships group in the Beginners Guide.

Hi Mike

Your suspicions are correct. I overlooked or had forgotten about that button next to parent up arrow. Getting old I guess.

Many thanks for solving that problem.

You can get a similar effect by using the next Go To Record icon on the right.

Hi Mike

Forgive me but what button is this? The button that I think you mean (right of the Witness button) is greyed out even when I select a Census record? See attached screen shot.

In the Property Box toolbar at the top there is from left to right the blue Up to Parents arrow, the Display in Focus Window magnifying-glass icon, and then the Go To Record icon that looks like disk drive platters. If you hover the cursor on each one, the popup tooltip tells you their name, shown in bold here, jut like most other buttons and icons.

Hi Mike

Got it now. Many Thanks. Yes I see it can also switch the focus person to that displayed.
