Problem loading program - missing dll

Post by Ted » 19 Oct 2016 14:26

Successfully re-installed FH v 5 after installing Windows 7 Pro on my PC (from XP Pro). Used the program a couple of times with no problems, loading from the shortcut on the desktop. From a day ago the program will not load from the shortcut, or directly from the program folder using Fh.exe. The attached error window is displayed stating: ERROR Cannot find import; DLL may be missing, corrupt,or wrong version. File "mfc100.dll", error 126.

I am not aware of any warnings or problems with other programs and have regular virus and malware checks.

Advice as to how to proceed would be appreciated as I do not want to uninstall and re-install again if it can be avoided.

Thanks in anticipation.

I presume you used same installation method as in Missing standard queries in loaded program (11342) over 2 years ago?
i.e. Installed the Upgrade V4 to V5 and then the FH V5.0.11 latest free download as explained in how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice.

The how_to:family_historian_installation_problems|> Family Historian Installation Problems lists your problem and ways to cure it, but they all involve re-installing FH or the C++ package. However, to re-install FH just install the FH V5.0.11 latest free download over what you have already got installed.

BTW: I hope you took backups of not only your Project folders but also your customisations and preferences by using the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin as advised in how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide under Further Advice to migrate from an old Windows version to a new Windows version both on the same PC.

Thanks for the reply and link to possible solutions. Yes to all your questions! I do not understand however, the seemingly random emergence of the problem after successfully using the program after installation of Windows 7. Will try re-installing FH v 5 and report back.

Downloaded and installed the recommended MS C++ run time libraries software. FH loads now with no problems. Thank you again for your assistance. I am looking at the newest version of FH, but wanted to ensure I have all my data up to date and backed up (on external devices and Dropbox) on the version I have before taking the plunge.
