Family Historian 4
Hi even though I have had it for a while I have just started using Family Historian 4. Please can someone tell me if I am doing something wrong.
When I clicked on a name in version 3 the name came up in a box with a lot of information i.e. Birth, Death, Spouse, Marriage then I could click on a button to get their parents.
In 4 the person just comes up on the right hand side and gives little information and I can't see how to get to parents.
Is there any way of getting it to act like 3.
At the moment I don't like 4 and seriously considering going back to 3.

Re: Family Historian 4
Welcome to your first posting on the FHUG.
For future reference it would useful if your Family Historian Version is shown in the details to the right of your posting, where it currently says None. To update that please click your username gb4yzj top right of this web page and choose User Control Panel, and then on its Profile tab update the Family Historian version, and finally scroll to the bottom and click Submit.
I believe in FH V3 you had to double-left-click an Individual in the Records Window to display their Property Box of details. Essentially, FH V4 does everything that FH V3 did in much the same way, but adds some useful new features too.
In FH V4 there are two initial windows available that are selected by clicking the two icons in the left-hand vertical navigation bar:
As a newcomer to FH V4 I also advise you study the topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers especially the Documentation & Tutorials and Project Structure & Location.
You will inevitably have further questions, so feel free to post them here.

- Focus Window is explained in how_to:v4:focus_window|> Focus Window Introduction, Printout, and Customisation and displays a mini-family tree showing the Individual alongside their Spouse with the Parents above and the Children below. So you should not need to click anything to get to see the Parents.
Right -click any person and choose Properties to get their Property Box on the right as described below. - Records Window very similar to FH V3 where a double-left-click opens their Property Box of details in a slightly revised format as explained in how_to:v4:property_dialogue_in_v4|> Property Box Dialogue Features.
The Go To Parents button is replaced by a blue Up arrow in the toolbar at the top.

Re: Family Historian 4
I can't remember the V4 screens too well, but on the top of the property box there should be a blue up arrow icon to get at the parents.

Family Historian 4
I have always used Family Historian 3 but decided to put 4 onto my laptop. Please can someone tell me is there any way of getting it like 3.
I am having problems as in 3 when you got a person up in the box you could easily see who they were married to and all their children and by clicking on a button get to their parents. In 4 the person you want to look at comes up at the side of people in tree list and I cannot find how you easily get to their parents.
In 3 it was easy to work from a person up or down the tree you can't seem to do it in 4
Hope someone can help me otherwise I am going to revert back to 3
Thank you

Re: Family Historian 4
Hi, you posted virtually the same question a month ago on the same subject, but you appear to have ignored the reply given then, so I have merged the two threads into one.
Please read through the previous reply, and if possible post screen-shots or describe EXACTLY the commands you are using. As said before, FH V4 offers all the same features as FH V3 but some of your settings may need to be adjusted. The main difference is the Focus Window described in previous reply, but that makes finding Parents and Children even easier NOT harder, because they are shown together as a family group in a mini-tree as below:

Re: Family Historian 4
I suspect you had Version 3 set up to open the property box on double click, if you go to Tools>Preferences and to the Record List tab check that you have the Double Click option set to open the Property Box.

Thank you for your replies. I am sorry this was a repeated post but I have been ill and had a lot happen in family and forgot I had put the post on.
I have now looked at the Knowledge base and sorted a lot of the problems.
Thank you very much
