Internet data matches - change FMP to .com?
Is it possible to change the lookup site from fmp.co.uk to fmp.com?
The reason I ask is twofold 1: that is where my subscription is and 2: the results appear so much quicker from the .com site rather than the .co.uk site, for me they are instant from .com and they take over a minute from .co.uk.

I don't think it matters where you established your subscription. It seems to work on all the FMP websites for me.
Are you using the internal FH Web Window or an external browser?
If the latter, I wonder if the .com website is faster simply because your browser cache has captured some of the details.
Try experimenting with the different options, and try logging in to .co.uk site.

Mike
This is me still experimenting with the Wine install.
The internal browser never gets any results it is just a blank screen. The external browser, Firefox in my case, takes ages to respond, if it ever does, and then to display the result on the .co.uk site if I edit the url and change to .com the result display is immediate. I am looking up US records at the moment. I have logged into both FMP sites and have both cookies current in Firefox.

Re: Internet data matches - change FMP to .com?
Regarding Wine and internal FH Web Window, I presume you know that uses the IE Shell to render web pages.
Does the simple internal FH Internet Search Web Window stay blank too?
Do my Plugins display their Help & Advice pages OK?
They all use the same IE Shell to render the web pages.
If they all fail, then try the Write Reg IE Shell Version Plugin and set the Version to 9, 10, or 11.
If the Version was originally None or less than 9 then that might be the cause of the problem.
I can't help much more with FMP so I suggest you contact Calico Pie for assistance.
As far as I am aware all the FMP websites offer the same services.
You can Login to any one, and they all have the same online records.
It is a bit odd as .com, .com.au, .ie and .co.uk all behave much the same for me.

I can confirm that in the 3 of your plugins that I tried all of your help screens appeared fine.
The FH Web Window remains blank whether I edit the url to .com or .co.uk.
I will contact Calico Pie about the issue but as it is on Wine I doubt (rightly so) that I will get much help. I agree it should make no difference but it does seem to as like you I can login to any of their sites and search without issue. Pasting the .co.uk url into Safari after some considerable time does give the same result as .com in Firefox but in Firefox the .co.uk just displays the 'working' spinner.

I sent a report to Calico Pie and this is the response.

Yes you can. Findmypast's hinting service operates out of 3 web domains: the UK, Ireland, and the US. Family Historian will choose which one to use based on the country code of your PC. If the country code is UK or GB it will use the UK service. If it is IE it will use the Ireland service. If it is anything else, it will use the US service.
If you wish to use the service used, you can do so by changing the Home Location of your PC in the Control Panel. Alternatively, you can also override this within FH. On the 'Map Window' tab of Preferences, you can set an 'override default country code'. I suggest you set it to US if you want findmypast.com. You will need to restart your PC.
=========
I used the 'Map Window' preferences and it works perfectly as I did not want to affect my global computer settings. The restart your PC advice for this change is not correct you just have to restart Family Historian.
Mike, I think that we should put this somewhere in the KnowledgeBase, which I am happy to do. Where do you suggest that it goes?

Re: Internet data matches - change FMP to .com?
I too suffer from slow FMP screens, especially when viewing images! If i download the image before it has fully loaded into the viewer, I invariably get the image downloaded long before the viewer has rendered it! i.e. I see the image quicker via the download than via the image viewer.
This is when using FMP direct using Firefox browser, and not via hints. I'm wondering if it is the .co.uk site itself which is slowing things down, rather than FH. I'll try the .com site tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

Colin, I have created a how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches page with a few suggestions for headings, but it will quickly evolve to cover the things that matter.
A Search of the Forums for Internet Data Matches throws up plenty of threads with potential titbits of advice.

I have made a start and will do some more updates to it in the coming days.
