Good evening, this is my first time on here having received my FH program yesterday. Having been a Family Tree Maker user for the past nine years i think it must be.
The query i have, I am pretty sure this has been covered on here somewhere but i cannot find it so if there is a thread i would be grateful if someone can point me in its direction.
I sort of get what these lines are about; them being a duplicate person on the diagram "map"
i have found out how to hide the lines showing me where there is a supposed duplicated person.
In my program i know there isnt a duplicate person and i am presuming it is that they are linked in two ways through people but i would like to, if i van to sort it out.
Hope i am explaining this properly.
Thanx in advance

Re: The coloured link lines on a diagram!
Welcome to the FHUG Jayne.
The duplicate Individual ribbons are a slight misnomer.
There are no actually duplicated Individual records.
But there are two boxes on the Diagram representing the same Individual.
This can be caused by relationships such as Marriage between cousins, however distant.
Another common cause is accidentally duplicated Family records.
If you only started using FH yesterday, could you summarise how you got your data into FH.
Did you import it from FTM?
BTW: Did you see how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM)?

Re: The coloured link lines on a diagram!
Hello Mike, Thank you for replying.
Yes I imported my tree using a gedcom created by FTM.
I did go through my almost 6000 relations and places etc checking for any issues that may cause discrepancies before creating the gedcom in FTM.
I have checked the tree and i definitely do not have a duplicate family member.
Cousin-ship is a whole different ball game though eh!
Looking at the hyphen i just added there.....when i imported me tree i did get question regarding something in regards to hyphen usage i think it was but it totally confused me!
Also i am having lots of issues with the program "not responding" especially if i click on home!!
Thank you for your help.

Re: The coloured link lines on a diagram!
looking at it again....its definitely the cousin-ship thing!
I have a husband and wife that are 1st cousins 2 x removed! to name one pairing.
I have to say all this is happening in the royal family tree connection part of my family and lets face it; they married their cousins all over the place!
I will have to put up with the lines i think but i do like everything all neat and tidy!
what are your thoughts on my "not responding" issue please?
Thanks again

Re: The coloured link lines on a diagram!
The 'hyphen' thing is to do with the way Gedcom handles very long lines of text.
The rules demand they must be wrapped within a word, and not at the space between words.
However, not all genealogy programs honour that rule correctly.
So FH is letting you try the two options to see which one unwraps words best, or you can let FH to try its best.
It is explained in how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM).
See how_to:family_historian_installation_problems#errorfamily_historian_not_responding|> Family Historian Installation Problems > Error: Family Historian Not Responding.
Does that explain the cause?
Alternatively, sometimes over zealous anti-virus tools can slow FH. Try putting an exception into your anti-virus for the FH C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian folder.
The only other idea is to try the Run as administrator and Safe Mode installation techniques at the top of how_to:family_historian_installation_problems|> Family Historian Installation Problems.
