missing header in gedcom export

Post by DPalomo » 12 Sep 2016 06:03

Created a gedcom from FH small project to import into TMG - but rejected because of missing header. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Welcome to your first posting on FHUG.

Do you mean The Master Genealogist (TMG) that has been discontinued, or The Next Generation (TNG) online that is popular with many FH users?

The usual cause of a missing header message is the Gedcom character encoding.
FH uses UNICODE by default, but despite being a standard Gedcom encoding it is often not supported by other programs.
See how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia|> Exporting a Family Tree with Multimedia under Gedcom Formats at the very bottom for options to use UTF-8 (other encodings are also available if that does not work).

The solution of using the Export Gedcom File Plugin is particularly relevant if you are transferring into The Next Generation (TNG) as explained in plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:tng_the_next_generation|> Export Gedcom File ~ (TNG) The Next Generation.

You may have more questions to ask after having investigated those options.
