Flagging Individuals as Private in Reports

Post by HYoung » 28 Jul 2016 06:41

Hello,

I am using the 'Private' record flag to produce a descendant outline report in order to control what individuals are shown, namely only one of three marriages and also some individuals from lower generations. The private function works to a certain extent, the flagged indivdual's data is redacted but they are now recorded in the outline report as 'unknown'.

Is there any way to flag individuals as private and completely redact them from a descendant outline report?

I cannot manually delete the 'unknown' individuals from the report (in WORD) as the connecting lines become inconsistent. The only solution I can see is to unlink these 'flagged' individuals temporarily but as there are nine I run the risk of forgetting to link them back after I have produced the report.

Thanks for your help.

Maybe create a copy of your project (or just the GEDCOM if you don't have any media files in the report that you want to create), then in that copy add all the private individuals to a named list, then use that named list to delete them. Then create your report from that copy project/gedcom.

David's suggestion is one idea that I would support.
It is easy to find all the Private flagged Individuals and add them to a Named List.
Use View > Standard Queries > Has Flag and choose Private.
Then on Query Menu choose Add Row Records to Named List.
Finally, right-click Named List and choose Delete Listed Records.

Incidentally, when I used Save Reports As > Word-Processor Document (RTF) and opened it in Microsoft Office Word or OpenOffice Writer there were no connecting lines, so it was easy to delete the (unknown) entries.

If you do get the connecting lines appearing in Microsoft Office Word then editing would be easier without them. So try clearing the FH Report > Options > Main tab Connecting Lines option.
