Default Married Females to have Maiden name as Primary

Hi Forum
I'm very new to FH6, today I migrated my TMG9.05 database and am still identifying differences/issues. But having tried a few so called compatible programs to receive from TMG direct, my first impressions for FH6 are very good indeed. One issue I note is that Married Females tend to have their Married Surname set as Primary. Is there a way to make a mass change to have the Maiden (Birth) Surname set as Primary?
Many thanks
David

Welcome to the FHUG David.
I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum as it is not really an Importing question.
Presumably, in TMG your married females were recorded primarily with their married surname?
Did you record their maiden birth surname as one of their names?
Have you checked their Alternative Names in FH by clicking the more... link next to their Name in the Property Box?
Also, their maiden birth surname can be determined from their father's surname.
Either way, it is possible for a custom Plugin to be written to make the mass change, once we know exactly what needs to be changed. Essentially it needs to ensure the surname of each female matches their father's surname.
BTW: As a newcomer checkout our how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.

Hi Mike
Let me investigate this further, not all Married Females appear to experience this issue. But I also found an example of where my Grandmother is shown as Nellie her Nickname as a Primary Name in FH rather than her Maiden (Parental) name. I also found my Great Grandmother who married three times was shown as her First Married name as Primary. I have corrected that but need to find other examples. All name tags in TMG in these examples are NAME, NAME-NICK or NAME-MARR
Is there a way to find this condition easily by way of report or query?

Hi David,
Did you check all their Alternate Names, etc, in FH by clicking the more... link next to their Name in the Property Box? This shows all the names that FH knows about for that person.
I only have limited knowledge of TMG and how its data is mapped into FH. All the TMG tag types Name-Variation, Name-Nick, Name-Marriage, etc, appear to map onto the Gedcom NAME tag. It is also important which name fields (Prefix, GivenName, Surname, etc) are used within each tag type.
So all those names will presumably map into the FH Gedcom NAME tag.
If by 'this condition' you mean where a person's Primary Surname is different from their father's Surname, then that is a fairly simple Query.
Open the Query Window and use cog Query Menu to create a New Custom Query.
Give it a Query Name such as Surname Mismatch and leave the Type as Individual.
Click the Run Query button (blue circle + white triangle) to list all Individuals by Name.
Open the Rows filter tab and enter the following two filters:
Condition: Exclude if...
Expression: %INDI.~FATH[1]>NAME[1]%
Operator: is null
Click Add button lower right - this excludes Individuals with no Father's Name.
Condition: Exclude if...
Expression: =Bool(%INDI.NAME:SURNAME% = %INDI.~FATH>NAME:SURNAME%)
Operator: is true
Click Add button lower right - this excludes Individuals whose Surname = Father's Surname.
Click the Run Query button to list all Individuals who match the filter conditions.

Super - Thanks Mike
I'll give that a go. Apologies for late replies - I have been having problems understanding my message options.
