Media linked files

I have a new laptop and getting back into family history.

I have copied media files over and would like to change file locations and names to a standard format in FH.

How do I do that in FH 6.2 (I have looked in the manual)?

Did you use the how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide to move from PC to PC?

I'm sorry but, you will have to explain how you want to 'change file locations and names', because there is no such thing as 'a standard format in FH'.
e.g.
Where are your Media files located now?
What does Tools > External File Links say about them?
How do you want to change them and why?
What are your objectives?

Thanks Mike,
I was running FH V4 so did a clean install of V6 and copied my media files over from DVD.

The standard file names I am referring to are a standard that I have set for my media file names.

Using Tools>external file links>edit I can change file names in FH and then change the actual file name with windows explorer; so have a resolution. I am also able to repair broken links where some of my file names have been truncated during the copying.

Regards Jonathan.

Yes Jonathan, that is the way to perform such changes, as advised in how_to:changing_external_file_links|> Changing External File Links.

Also, FH V6 does have built-in tools to automatically repair broken Media links.

Did you have any problems using how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide and did you successfully transfer all your preference settings and customisations of Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Plugins, Fact Sets, etc?

Thanks Mike,

I have not got that far yet and I do not remember doing customization or plugins.

That's very reassuring as I have found that during three years of not using FH I had moved and in some cases deleted many images from my Dropbox FH Media folder on my C drive to keep below my Dropbox limit.
All of the images are elsewhere on my PC , just not necessarily where they should be for showing in FH.
As I have ordered FH6 I was going to start and try to put my house in order before FH6 arrived. Now, from what you say, I think it best to wait a few days and explore exactly what FH6 offers to "automatically repair broken Media links" rather than waste time trying to do it manually in FH5.
