Changed symbol in notes

The attached image read £320.7s.when I created a note to a probate event. I think the change occurred when I upgraded from V.5 to V.6, although I cannot be certain, and I have found many such examples. When I come across one such, I emend the unknown (to me) symbol to "£" - without the quotes. I would like to write a query to find and emend all remaining instances at once but I have no idea what to call these strange symbols. Any ideas, anyone?

The upset is probably due to the change from ANSI in FH V5 to UNICODE in FH V6.
Maybe your PC was not using the standard character encoding for £ sign and it translates to what I think is the UNICODE Replacement character (black diamond with question mark).

You don't need to write anything, just use the Edit > Find and Replace command.
Copy & Paste the rogue character into Search For box and put £ in the Replace With box.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. I tried cropping the original image so that I was left with just the symbol. However, when Itried to paste it into the "find" box all I got was a big fat blank. In fact, I can't paste it into anything. Nor can I find it in any of the character sets available in Windows 7, although since it has appeared in my records several times, it must be there somewhere. I think I will just write it off and continue altering the symbol if it ever turns up again.

This may be a daft suggestion - but are you sure there's nothing there? Somewhere in the back of my mind I've pasted stuff into the Find part of a Find / Replace dialog, and while there's nothing visible, when I hit Find, well, it does find something. Though I'm unclear what it might look like.... But it does Replace it OK.

I can't test this particular case so I'm relying on suspicion..... And it might not even be FH that I remember it happening in...

Just a suggestion.

I may have misunderstood you, but you cannot get a 'character' by 'cropping' a .jpg image! It is still just a 'photo' of the character and NOT the character itself.

You have to copy & paste the character from the Note box within FH, where you say you can replace/delete the character and enter the £ sign.

BTW: I found the odd character right at the end of the Tahoma character set, but it could not be copied. I suspect what you are seeing is a representation of another character code that has no defined presentation in its font set, so displays what you see.
