Delete unnamed spouse

Post by RichardBtn » 18 Apr 2016 16:25

I've got into a bit of a mess with one of my relatives; adding a spouse and child, then discovering I had the wrong name for the wife, creating a new spouse record with the same child, deleting the name of the first spouse but now being stuck with an 'unnamed spouse' that I can't find a way to delete.

The unnamed spouse is still showing up in my ancestor's record (with child still linked) and I can't find a way to remove her, figuratively speaking. I've done a search in FH help but can't seem to find a solution to address my problem. Can any kind soul help me clear up this mess? Many thanks.

Richard, 'unnamed spouse' is not a status I recognise so it must be one of the following.

1) <no spouse> Scenario :-
I suspect you are talking about the Property Box for the husband whose Spouse tab says <no spouse> and a Child is listed below.

It is the Child link that is blocking the removal and keeping the Family record to link Child to Father with no Mother.

In the Focus Window the Father will have several entries for each Spouse including the missing one.
See how_to:removing_unwanted_relations|> Removing Unwanted Relations and Unlink Record for the Child from the single parent Father and that single parent family will vanish.

2) [unnamed person] Scenario :-
Here the Property Box for the husband has Spouse tab saying [unnamed person] and a Child is listed below.

See how_to:removing_unwanted_relations|> Removing Unwanted Relations and Unlink Record for the Child of the partnership with [unnamed person] and then Delete Record for the [unnamed person] wife.

Mike, many thanks for your excellent and timely advice. I have managed to delete the incorrect record.

You're quite right, I should have said 'unnamed person' rather than 'unnamed spouse'. Forgive me, it was done in the frustration of the moment.

Your help is much appreciated.
