V6.2 Download

Post by Peanuts » 10 Apr 2016 09:25

When donwloading the V6.2 upgrade I am told that this doesn't support my version of Windows - currently running Windows 10 Home and FH version 6.0.4. Any views on why that might be ?

Welcome to the FHUG.
I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum because it is nothing to do with the User Group Suggestions and requests for help on using this site.

There should be no problem installing FH V6.2.0 on Windows 10.
I presume you are downloading from http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downl ... ee-upgrade.
Exactly what is the error message?
Is it any of those described in how_to:family_historian_installation_problems#windows_security_warnings|> Family Historian Installation Problems - Windows Security Warnings?
If so, then follow the advice there.
If not, then if you could post a screenshot of the message it would help.

Mike, could it be that peanuts went from 6.0.4? I upgraded from 6.1.? with no problem, and like peanuts, I am running Windows 10 home edition.

Should not matter which version was previously installed as long as it is any licensed FH V6.

Mick. Error message simply says "This program does not support the version of Windows your computer is running"
I had thought of upgrading from 6.0.4 to 6.1 first but the FH download page takes me straight to the V6.2 download link which then gives me this error message once I've downloaded it. The 6.0.4 version is a legitimate one as is my Windows 10 so shouldn't be a problem with them.

That is a mystery.
That message usually only arises when installing FH V6 on Windows XP.
I can only suggest you contact Calico Pie via http://www.family-historian.co.uk/suppo ... t-overview and the + Contact Support link, then hopefully they can sort it out.

I wonder if this is another case of a gremlin creeping in with the free upgrade to Windows 10. I am of course making an assumption that you have upgraded and are not installing onto a fresh install of Windows 10.

Brian,

In my case, it was a new PC that came with Windows 10 pre-installed, and upgrade to 6.2 worked fine.

Mike L - I am wondering if Peanuts has taken the upgrade path to get to Windows 10 as this can have unexpected results. To get rid of the problems that I had, it was necessary to carry out a fresh install. I would however expect there to be no difficulties in installing FH on a new computer.

Brian,
That's the point I was trying to make, the upgrade worked fine on my 'new' Windows10.
As you pointed out, if Peanuts has an 'upgraded' Windows 10, that could be the problem. ;)

Brian/Mike L You are both correct. Mine was a Windows 10 upgrade although as far as I'm aware this is the first problem I've had with installing/upgrading any software. I'll take on board the suggestion and contact Calico Pie direct. Will keep you all advised.

Have you tried clearing down the Browser cache and doing the download again or trying it with a different browser, Windows 10 puts out that message for "broken downloads" as well

Thanks Jane and well done. Managed to do it in Microsoft Edge. I'd tried clearing down the cache in Firefox but it still didn't work. I've asked Calico Pie to look into this issue and I'll let you know the outcome.
Has anyone else had issues with Firefox downloads ?

I download via Firefox V45 all the time on Windows 7 and Windows Vista without any problems.

I will add those symptoms and solution to the how_to:family_historian_installation_problems|> Family Historian Installation Problems.

Ditto to Mike's comment re:Firefox. Never an issue downloading FH with Firefox 45.01 on Windows 7.
