I'm finding that fairly frequently when I copy a .jpg into the Media files and then add it to the person in relates to, FH freezes up "not responding" and sometimes to the point that I have to shut down the computer. What am I doing here that would cause this. Only happens since v.6.
Thanks folks!

Re: Add Media to FH Not Responding
I have split this off into a new topic, because it is confusing to answer multiple questions in one thread.
Can you run through the exact commands you are using to first add the Media .jpg image to create a Media record, and then to add that Media record to an Individual (Media tab, Fact, or Citation?)

Re: Add Media to FH Not Responding
Let's say I copy a grave stone picture to my FH Media file from findagrave. I then go to the individual that it relates to, click on media, find the file, click on it to transfer to the individual's media. At this point it may take forever to transfer or perhaps hang the program AND sometimes it is not possible to close the program so the computer hangs.
This is sporadic and so far I have not been able to find a common set of circumstances, other than the above described sequence, that would cause this.
Will be interested to see what you come up with.

Re: Add Media to FH Not Responding
It is still not absolutely clear what commands you are using, but I presume the following.
There are two alternative preferable methods:
e.g.
Your Project folder is within a cloud storage folder such as DropBox or OneDrive and the image file is being synchronised when you add it to the Individual, or there is an automatic Backup utility that is copying the image file at that time.
- Utilities outside FH are used to copy the image file from findagrave to the Media folder deep within your Project.
- Open FH and open an Individual Property Box.
- Select the Media tab and click Add Media > Insert from file.
- In Insert picture or other media dialogue select and Open the image file copied to Media folder above, and at this point the problem sometimes happens.
There are two alternative preferable methods:
- Download the image file to say your Downloads folder, and perform the above process, but select the file from the Downoads folder. FH will ask where in the Media folder to copy the file, and let you to rename the file. Finally, delete the file from the Downloads folder.
- Open the Media tab of the Property Box as above, then drag & drop the image directly from findagrave to the Media tab, which will gain a blue border to show it is a drop zone. FH will ask where in the Media folder to copy the file, and allow you to rename the file. See how_to:copy_paste_and_drag_drop|> Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop.

Re: Add Media to FH Not Responding
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the analysis and suggestions. My project is not on the cloud but perhaps the idea that there is a backup in progress might be the answer - and it would/could be the automatic back up that FH does? Seems a possibility since the occurrence is sporadic. From what I have described as my method of adding media, does FH auto backup seem to be the most likely? I have no other program that is doing any auto backup.
Thanks again.
