Getting the most from Family Historian

Under the help menu, on my FH version 5, there’s “Getting the most from Family Historian 5”. I can’t remember whether it came as part of the installation or if I downloaded it. And if I downloaded it, how did it get included in the help menu? Maybe someone can tell me if it was included in the V5 installation.
Anyway, as there is now - ‘Getting the most from Family Historian 6’ in book form, I was wondering if the V6 installation included a pdf copy of the book, or if there might be a downloadable soft copy available.
Can anyone with V6 please let me know.
Tim

GtMFFH5 PDF and associated Tutorials were included with the FH V5 Installation package, the same as previous versions.
Although the V6 Book has just been published for purchase, there is still no PDF version with tutorials in the FH V6 package.
There has been no announcement from Calico Pie about such a PDF version, and only they know.

Yesterday I posted this question to
Family Historian support.
As a paid user (Feb 20, 2016) of a downloaded Family Historian V6.1.4., will there be a PDF version of the Guide to Getting the Most from Family Historian V6 available (at no charge).
This was their answer:
We are not offering a free copy of the book with V6, however you can download the V5 book from the Download Archive on our site

So, it's either purchase the book (pricing not yet available in
Amazon in the USA), or hope for a PDF version (likely not free) down the road.
Too bad.

That is a multiple disappointment, because an advantage of that PDF in previous FH versions was the accompanying interactive tutorials, and it will now be difficult to advise FHUG members where to find advice in the GtMFFH V6 Book unless I buy one!
I had got the impression that the PDF Book would accompany a future release of FH V6, but I cannot find the FHUG posting or [FHU] Email that said so.

Version 6 of this book is available on amazon uk for £14.95. (Mine ordered this morning!)
Whilst it is nice to have a PDF version, I personally think having a proper book to refer to is far superior, (and for £14.95, quite reasonably priced). One can dip in and out of the book, make notes in the margin etc and have it open to refer to when attempting anything new. All of which is awkward with only one screen to share between PDF viewer and FH.

Indeed, the amazon courier chap delivered my copy not half an hour ago.
For anyone wondering, the book is A4 size and 243 pages long (238 excluding the index).

I never spotted it is A4, even better, more info than a mere A5 size!
Can't wait to get mine.

The book is also available now on the USA site of Amazon.com with a cost of $23.95 plus shipping and tax. It became available late Sunday, which was when I ordered a copy.

I just tried ordering my copy but sadly it appears that Amazon (uk) are out of stock!

I believe there are more books on the way to Amazon.co.uk so hopefully, they will arrive soon.
Calico will also be selling the books at Who Do You Think you are (at a slight discount I believe), so if you are going just pop along to stand 224.

Can someone clarify whether the new book 6 comes with tutorial files? There is no mention of them on the Calicoe Pie website or in the description of the book.

No files, just a printed book.

The book has been restructured so you can use the Sample Project to work through all the tutorials.

Amazon delivered my book yesterday, and have spent the last few hours browsing through it, and at first glance I am sad to report I'm disappointed with it. Very little has been added over the V5 version, and despite its promise to be for new AND advanced users, as a Computer Graduate, found little 'advanced' material in it, Plugins and LUA don't even get a mention!
A good example is functions, where the same caveat applies that they are 'beyond the scope of the book'
Sorry Simon, you missed a good opportunity to rectify shortcomings of the V5 PDF.

Perhaps somebody from Calico Pie could explain what level of advanced users the Book is aimed at, especially if it does not cover Functions or Plugins at all!
Maybe in their eyes there is another level of user, perhaps expert users?

Following on from my previous post, may I clarify something.
If you have the V5 PDF version, this (V6) edition adds very little, and I wouldn't recommend the additional expense.
However, if you don't have the V5 PDF version, this edition would be a better buy, as it is more relevant to FH V6, but see my previous post re 'Advanced' users..

They have now posted the
contents pages from the book, so you can review what's covered.
There are some pages on using plugins and on creating queries, but it is not a Manual and the functions and plugin syntax is covered in the help, rather than the book.

Hi
This is my first time on FHUG, so hop this is okay?
Have spotted this and quote-
"We are not offering a free copy of the book with V6, however you can download the V5 book from the Download Archive on our site"
Ros
I have looked on the download archive site and can only see the V5 software link. Please, where is the link for the V5 book?
Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the FHUG Joan.
Ron's advice is spot on.
As a newcomer you may find how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers a useful starting point for discovering the features of FH.
