Triplicate lines in Chart

Post by geopet544 » 24 Mar 2016 16:59

Hi
I'm using V.5. In the diagram for this file, I am getting THREE lines for the same people and I just cannot see why. I have built at least 6 diagrams from scratch using this gedcom file and each time I get the triplication. I'm sure I'm being an idiot somewhere.
Can you help? The line is Thomas Sullivan Snr down to Elsie Lowenna Findon.

PS Before posting this, I read my previous posts and have been faced with an unpleasant reminder that I had a bit of a rant about Family Historian Software V4 over V3.1.2 and how it works; in doing so, and expressing my irritation with FH, I made the wrong assumption that FHUG was a Calico Pie company site - and thinking the famous Jane was an employee, I'm afraid I was rather rude to her.
Belatedly - if Jane is still around - I should like to unreservedly apologise to Jane . . . . but not to Calico Pie

First a little housekeeping. Please click the User Control Panel link at top of this FHUG web page, and on its Profile tab enter Family Historian Version 5 so it appears to the right of your postings.

It is a bit difficult to tell without a bit more background, but Thomas Snr SULLIVAN and his wife Mary HEALY appear twice, and there are married cousins such as Benjamin William FINDON and Elizabeth Agatha SULLIVAN which result in two routes. This is indicated by the Tools > How Related dialogue showing that Elsie FINDON is both great x 5 and great x 6 granddaughter of Thomas SULLIVAN via those two married cousins.

It would help to know how you created the Chart. Who is the Root Individual or Couple you started from and have any other trees been inserted.

In order to help "see the wood for the trees", I created an All Relatives diagram for the couple Max Arthur Lambert FINDON and Edna Helen (Jacky) SHELLY having unticked the option Check for duplicates. I then manually hid all the boxes for individuals who were not a direct ancestor of Elsie Lowenna FINDON. I saved the result as the attached chart:

As you can see, Elsie Lowenna FINDON appears three times, and Thomas Snr. SULLIVAN appears twice. I guess this is not unusual in families where there are marriages between cousins.
