I've now tried a couple of times to export a gedcom and each time I've received this message:

That is reporting a particularly unusual UNICODE UTF-16 character that I never expected to be used.

I will try and add a better diagnostic error report to help identify where it is, and if necessary cope with such characters.

Try ATTACHMENTS Export Gedcom File Plugin Version 2.5.1 Date 27 Feb 2016.
[EDIT: ATTACHMENT now deleted as in Plugin Store at V2.6.]

It seems you are choosing a UTF-16 output encoding?

This Plugin version should produce a more detailed error report such as:
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Temp\~fhA90C.tmp:1240: UTF-16 outside Basic Multilingual Plane
UTF-8 = ce a9
UTF-16 = 3a9
Char = Ω Posn = 14
0 @N5@ NOTE Ω Named List: Work %90 Progress
0 @N6@ NOTE Ω Named List: Key Individuals

This should identify where the offending character is located, and may require a correction to the Plugin to cope with such Unicode characters.

Please post the error message here.

Try ATTACHMENTS Export Gedcom File Plugin Version 2.5.2 Date 28 Feb 2016.
[EDIT: ATTACHMENT now deleted as in Plugin Store at V2.6.]

This should cope with all UTF-16 codes, including the Supplementary Planes 16-bit pairs beyond the Basic Multilingual Plane 16-bit words.
