Post by jsphillips » 25 Feb 2016 18:11

I am in Records window showing Individual records with:-
Record ID, Dates Birth-Death,Birth Place, Relationship to root and updated date & time.
I have sorted by clicking fields header so that the list starts with ID 1 onwards
How do I print this report please.
I am in FH 6.04
Thanks

You cannot print the Records Window directly, but see how_to:customising_record_window_columns|> Customise or Print Record Window Columns.

Thank you
Successfully created and the columns resized by pulling width markers, and then sorted by by clicking on column header.
I notice that when printing, ALL the Custom queries have as the printed title "New custom Query" regardles of the name that it has been saved with.
(1) how do I name the query for printing purposes .
(2) Do all additions to the list automatically take place so that when run/printed again they are incorporated?
Thanks again

(1) how do I name the query for printing purposes.
Checkout how_to:creating_a_query|> Creating a Query especially the how_to:creating_a_query:general_tab|> Query Window ~ General Tab that explains where to set print Title and Subtitle, etc.
Alternatively, in the Query Window click F1 key to get Help page where it says "If you want to print a query as a report...". The FH developers go to some length to provide Help but it is surprising how often it is overlooked.

(2) Do all additions to the list automatically take place so that when run/printed again they are incorporated?
Yes, just like any Query, Report, or Diagram the data is always derived dynamically from the current database.
However, if you change the Records Window configured Columns then you must use Save to Query again.

Thanks again.
I did look in help but did not find this particular point. I have now printed off your help and all previous help replies and filed in a folder.

I am interested in how you looked in Help.

The two methods I regularly use are:
  1. Click Help button or the F1 key in the window of interest (Query Window in this case) which opens the Query Window help page. BTW: F1 is a standard Windows shortcut to a relevant Help page.
  2. Use Help > Search Help and in this case enter Print Query and List Topics to list Query Window help page 1st.
Via either method the Query Window help page says:
"If you want to print a query as a report, you also have to decide:
What title(s) do I want for the printed report? The General Tab
"

Click on the link to The General Tab where it explains about Title and Subtitle when query is printed.

Where did you go wrong in finding that Help?

Can I capture or print, from any of the tabs, a filtered records window result to either a text file (like a listing) which I can then use for other purposes (spreadsheet, etc)? Just wish to capture the rows as they appear in the records window, ...not as a print image though.

I looked through the Knowledge Base Customize Or Print Records Window discussion, but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

Select the records you want and add them to a Named List, then run a query with a row filter using that Named List.

Sorry, but I'm still missing something. I created a 'named list' with the records in the window which was filtered, but what's next to capture the rows to a text file.

OK, I think I got it. Used the query and selected the named list, and now I can save the contents. Need to review now how to get the data fields desired.

Thanks!

The how_to:customising_record_window_columns|> Customise or Print Record Window Columns page has been updated to describe how to select Records Window rows for printing via a Query.

Thank you for documenting how to print/save records which was missing from the Knowledge Base link I was referred to earlier. I had just figured it out before you posted the revised link.

Thank you Mike
In the past I have either F1,d or gone to Knowledge base.
I find best solutions when illustrated with snippets ie screen dumps.
Anyway all clear now and thanks again
