* Customising diagram end of branch siblings
Customising diagram end of branch siblings
Having seen Mike's customised pedigree at Pedigree Charts (13321) it has made me wonder whether the following might be possible...the image shows an original FH tree at the top, and another quickly mocked up in Paint to show what I'm thinking of.
The idea behind is this is simply to stop a diagram becoming too wide in the most recent generation.
It would be really useful when trying to spot naming patterns.
Thanks for reading!

Re: Customising diagram end of branch siblings
Yes, you could do something like that.
Firstly I would suggest that an Orientation: Left-right horizontal Diagram would probably be more compact.
To list the children in one box requires a Text Box where the Text tab is:
%INDI.~CHIL[1]>%
%INDI.~CHIL[2]>%
%INDI.~CHIL[3]>%
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
%INDI.~CHIL[19]>%
The Data tab Base Person would be one of the parents.
Click the children's expansion button to hide the child boxes and put the Text Box in their place.
Repeat for each set of siblings, using a Copy of the Text Box and a different Base Person.
There is Wish List Ref 477 Show 'end of Branch' siblings vertically that you can vote for, but maybe the idea above is a good enough workaround?

Thanks very much Mike - I hadn't appreciated that text boxes could do so much!
It's an excellent workaround for what I want.
One other question about this - is it possible to format the text produced in this way? For example, can I colour the names of the individuals depending upon their sex? If not it's still better than I'd hoped

No you cannot colour the text, but you can add text to indicate their sex.
The easiest is to simply add (%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%) to each line to show (Male) or (Female).
Or use =TextIf(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%="Male","M","F") at start of each line.
Or in FH V6.1 use =Sex(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>%,"M","F","?") instead.
Remember to alter the [9] index for each child.
I think you could even use the male ♂ and female ♀ Unicode symbols in FH V6.

Re: Customising diagram end of branch siblings
That's great - I've gone for a slight variant:
=TextIf(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%="Male","M",TextIf(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%="Female","F","")) %INDI.~CHIL[1]>NAME:FIRST% %INDI.~CHIL[1]>TITL[1]%
Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Re: Customising diagram end of branch siblings
I have thought of a way to get coloured text.
Essentially you need two Text Boxes.
One with =TextIf(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%="Female",%INDI.~CHIL[1]>%," ") with red/pink font.
One with =TextIf(%INDI.~CHIL[1]>SEX%="Male",%INDI.~CHIL[1]>%," ") with blue font.
Also one of them must have no Fill and placed on top of the other.

That's excellent Mike - it works a treat. It isn't too bad at all to set up:
