Negative Age Display

Post by DerekAth » 25 Jan 2016 16:13

I'm trying to clean up my gedcom and would like to change all the negative dates shown in my FH programme.

Currently, if a person is born and dies in the same Quarter the resultant age is shown in brackets e.g. "(aged -1-0)" - I would prefer this to be shown as "(0)" is this possible with the plug-in - Search and Replace - or is there an alternative?

When the age is shown in brackets it has been calculated by FH, so can't be changed with Search and Replace. However you could enter the age 0 in the Age field of the Death event and it will then be displayed as 0, without brackets.

Lorna,

Yes thanks - I'm aware of that - but I've got 33,000+ in my FH programme - I want (if possible) a quick way to do it?

I think you would need a plugin to do that.

Oddly, I notice that the standard Query 'Age at Death' displays the age as 0 in these cases even though the Property Box shows (-1-0). So the Query can't be used to identify the records you are looking for because it doesn't distinguish between these and other cases of death within the first year.

Give me a few days Derek and I could knock up a Plugin for you.

I guess it would need to simply find Death Events whose =AgeAt() is 0 (or perhaps 1) and set the Age field to one of the following 0 or Infant or Child whichever you prefer.

As I'm sure you're aware, GEDCOM 5.5 Standard includes:
CHILD = age < 8 years
INFANT = age < 1 year
STILLBORN = died just prior, at, or near birth, 0 years

That would be marvellous - I think "0" would be best as it is then in line with the other ages?

The ATTACHMENTS Fix Infant Death Events Versiom 0.2 Date 26 Jan 2016 should detect those Death Events with Facts tab age (-1-0) (!) and set the Age to Infant (or 0 yrs is an alternative).

Just click on the orange link to install into FH.

As a precaution use File > Backup/Restore > Small Backup before running the Plugin.
