Hi,
Let's say you have 200 people in your database and you delete ID number 150, therefore as I read in the help section it says there will be a gap in the ID numbers as FH will never reuse record ID's when creating new ones i.e. ID number 150 will remain empty.
I would assume to keep all the numbers in sequence instead of deleting ID 150 you would over write it when you add a new person to the database and then relink this new person to the correct family. You could also do the same for Sources, etc.
The problem I'm facing is within FTM the ID number 1-92 is ok in sequence then it drops 7 ID numbers and restarts at 100 and then drops another 3 ID numbers further along the path. So after I've done a GEDCOM from FTM to FH I have the same number of people in both programs except the ID numbers are 10 apart and from ID number 93 onwards the gap starts in both programs.
That's not usually a problem except when I upload my FH data to my TNG website for the first time (which will not occur until later this year) I'll have to relink all of my images, census records, etc to all those people with an ID number 93 or greater. In TNG I manually load images and I'll continue to do that as I have HTML code in FTM/FH notes that will link other images and text within TNG that are not associated within the FTM or FH database.
I'm resolved to relink all the images and that's no problem for me to do that.....however I've already realised that the FHUG members are a clever lot so can someone think of an alternative here for me to consider as FH can be customised and FTM cannot?
Regards
Darryl

Re: ID numbers missing
I advise against 'messing' with the FH Record Id as they are very awkward to adjust and instrumental in saved FH Charts. See glossary:record_types_and_record_id|> Record Types and Record Id.
The best vehicle for exporting to TNG is the Export Gedcom File Plugin, which has custom settings for TNG and manages all linked Media files including Face/Detail Frames. Maybe that just leaves the HTML linked Media to resolve?
I do not understand the 'problem' because it is not clear how the HTML code is impacted by Record Id. Please supply more details.

Re: ID numbers missing
Hi Mike,
I would never mess with the FH Record ID as I would always avoid any possible future conflicts that it could create.
The Export Gedcom File Plugin looks interesting and I'll definitely look closer into that. Thanks for that.
The HTML code is not impacted by Record ID. If you reread the sentence it's just part of a statement that I made as to one of the reasons why I manually upload images to TNG.

Re: ID numbers missing
OK Daryl, so what 'alternative' solution are you asking FHUG members to supply?
Unless we undertand the 'problem' we cannot offer an 'alternative' solution.
There is a guide to exporting from FH and importing to TNG using the Plugin in plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:tng_the_next_generation|> Export Gedcom File ~ (TNG) The Next Generation.

Re: ID numbers missing
Hi Mike,
The problem I have is relinking all individuals after ID number 93 to all media in TNG and the question was whether there was a better way to do this rather than doing it manually. You have given me the Export Gedcom File Plugin and the Knowledge Base > Export Gedcom File ~ (TNG) The Next Generation so let me have a look at those first before this thread continues any further.
Regards
Darryl
