Relationship to Root

Post by DJBELMORE » 27 Dec 2015 17:08

I have just installed version 6.0 and when viewing individuals the relationship to root is now blank whereas in the previous version it used to show the relationship no matter how remote it was.

Can this be reinstated if so how do I do it

When viewing the individual record window right click on a blank area and select "columns".
In the left hand pane of the panel that is presented select the item "relationship to root".
Click on the > button to add this selection to the right hand list.
Using the up and down buttons adjust the column order to your satisfaction.
Then click OK.
Then look at the individual record window and adjust the width of the column as necessary.

Have you tried any of the three options available for File Root (from the Edit menu)?

Could you please click on User Control Panel at the very top of this web page, select its Profile tab and enter your Family Historian Version so its appears to the right of your postings.

If the Relationship to Root heading was there all along but the column was empty, then probably your File Root definition has got upset. So in the Focus Window, right-click on the Individual you want as the root and select Make File Root.

If you have not simply installed FH V6.0 over your previous version on the same PC, but performed some other form of installation instead, then there may be other issues that need rectifying.

Thanks for your help I now have some relationships but only as far back as Ist cousin once removed whereas before it showed half 4th cousin 3 times removed. I have tried refreshing under the window tab

My FH V6.1 certainly gives 3rd cousin once removed and others exactly the same as FH V5.
Which was your previous FH version?
What did you change to get the current improvement?

Please be more specific about the circumstances, so we can be more helpful.

Are you sure you have the same File Root person for the same Project you are comparing against?

What is the "window tab"?

I first downloaded version 6.0 and then 6.04 which is all Family Historian will allow me to do. I was previously version 5. The Window tab is at the top of family Historian sitting left of Help

Ah, we call that the Windows menu bar command, rather than a tab.

So you did not use the cheaper V5 to V6 Upgrade installation option?

What did you change to improve from no relationships at all to at least getting 1st cousins?

Are you sure you have the same File Root person as before?

Are you sure you are using the same Project as before?

Has the File > Project Window > Location been changed by the V6 installation?

Thanks for your help I went back to basics and found that my great great grandfather had been disconnected from his parents hence not a full relationship. I do not know how it happened but all is OK now
