Re: Multi-page images (that old chestnut)

Further to my problem above, I now find all media links to PDF media have been changed to:

C:\Program Data\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugin Data\improve_pdf_icon.jpg

which is why all my PDF media just displays a PDF icon.

Help !!

Welcome to the FHUG.

The symptoms you are seeing are due to running the Improve Website CD DVD HTML plugin.
That is only meant to be used in conjunction with building online websites as explained in its Help & Advice pages, and that is what this thread is all about
To undo those symptoms run the plugin again and on its Media Popups tab click the Convert all media file Popups … button.

It is not possible to get PDF files to be included in Reports.
The best solution is to convert the PDF to an image file or two and use those as Media.
See FHUG Knowledge Base Adding Photographs and Other Media.
See FHUG Forum thread view PDF files (15007).

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the advice.

I tried a number of things to fix the problem without success.

When I run the plugin as you suggested, the tab to convert all media file popups ... is greyed out.

I'm not sure if I have done the right thing but I deleted the plugin, recovered the project file to a point before I applied the plugin, and then checked to see the state of the PDF files i.e. if their links were correct.

Alas, they had not changed. When opening up the file it again displayed the PDF Icon only and it doesn't open the actual PDF file.

I'd have thought the restore would have solved my problem but that's not the case.

I know I can re-link all my files from scratch but seems a drastic option.

Phil

Ah! Yes, sorry, that button is probably greyed out because you don't actually have any website files to operate on.
In which case the other button should have been greyed out too. (Note to self: I must fix that.)

What technique did you use to restore your Project database?

I suggest you use File > Backup/Restore > Revert to Snapshot... and select a Snapshot Taken before you ran the plugin.
If that does not restore the PDF Media links, try an earlier Snapshot until you find one that works.
Remember that will not only undo the plugin changes but anything else you have changed since that Snapshot date.

BTW: If in future a plugin does not produce what you expect, then do NOT close FH, but use Edit > Undo Plugin Updates.

Thanks Mike.

I had used RESTORE to try and recover the PDF's.

But on using REVERT, the PDF's were restored - so I am one happy man. I hadn't done much work on the project after the PDF's were unlinked so getting back to where I was when things went haywire won't be difficult.

And thanks for advice on UNDO Plugin - it may help in future.

Thanks again

Phil
