Places, address report

Post by kbella » 05 Dec 2015 22:24

Trying to standardize some Irish place names with my cousin and would like to print a list of all the places our Fultons lived in, married in, are buried in, etc. I have created a named list of the subjects, but don't understand how to export a report of the data. I just want places and addresses.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Probably the best approach is to use the standard Query All Facts and create a Custom Query from that.
You will need to alter the Columns tab to add Address field, and possibly remove unwanted Columns.
Alter the Rows tab to Add if =IsInList(Owner1, Named List) is true.

OK, I see how that works, but I can't seem to save the changes to my new custom query. Instead, when I paste in the parameters for the Rows and try to run the query, I get an error message saying the changes have not been saved, do I want to discard.

To be clear, I pasted: =IsInList(Owner1, Fulton/Ireland) is true
in the Expression box under the Condition "Add If"

Is that correct?

Thanks,
Kathleen

No, that is not quite correct Kathleen.
Sorry, I have mislead you by saying Owner1 as shorthand for the Fact Owner 1 Column Expression: FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST) and the Named List must be enclosed in "quotes".
So you need to enter:
Condition: Add if
Expression: =IsInList(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),"Fulton/Ireland")
Operator: is true

Ok, did that, but it still won't work.

There is a problem with the form on the Rows page. The drop down list for Operator is empty and if I enter "is true" in the value box (or not) the Add and Update choices in the bottom right hand corner are still greyed out, so I can't save the changes.

Thanks for your help, it's been years since I've worked with expressions and I was never very good with them to begin with!

Did you copy & paste the Expression in my posting, or type it in by hand?

Did you include the leading = sign, as that is critical?

It should look like this:
IsInList.png
=IsInList(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),"Fulton/Ireland")
IsInList.png (4.45 KiB) Viewed 5124 times
Try to copy & paste the caption in italics below this screenshot.

I recreated the query as you said, Mike. I have 32 persons in my list, but when I run the query it is blank. Don't see what I am missing. :-(

Are you sure the Named List is called exactly Fulton/Ireland without "string quotes" and no space characters?

Does the Query General tab say Query Type: Fact?

Is the Query Rows tab filter condition: Add If?

Is there anything else on the Rows tab?

On the Rows tab, temporarily X delete the Add if filter - does the Query now produce a Result Set?

Like I said, it's been awhile! I was missing an 's'!

Thanks for your help, Mike.
