I think you may have forgotten this step. You have to install FH6 (which transferring Fh.exe will not do) before you can run the upgrade to FH v6.0.4.

Re: Transferring a detailed Family Tree from a PC to a Mac
When originally advised you must use upgrade_fh4_to_fh6.0.4.exe the fh4 is very important because that is the upgrade from V4 to V6 that you bought and its Email download expires on 23 Nov. (I assumed the fh6 in your upgrade file was a typo.)
The upgrade you have been using is the free V6.0.4 Upgrade that needs V6 to be already installed.
So if you cannot find the bought download, then try the Email link again on your Windows PC if necessary.
If that link does not work because you have already used it earlier, then you must contact Calico Pie to reset it, as advised in the KB FH Installation Guide.
It is important you look after such downloads that you have paid for in order to install again in the future.

Peter, thank you for your reply. You were dead right. I THOUGHT, but I am probably wrong, that I was doing exactly as advised. But I probably lost the wood for the trees in the - to me - challenging process of getting it onto my new Mac. My hobby is photography, not computers!!.
I have now transferred the v4 to v6 upgrade and then upgraded that to v6.0.4. All looks properly installed.
I will now leave to the morning the final job of moving over my own family tree, done 5 years ago and not to be lost. It's pretty big, since my father was one of 11 children!
Thanks and good night
Phil

Before potentially wasting time transferring your data several times, PLEASE follow the Migration Guide step by step as advised.
If you had followed its steps then the recent installation mishap should have been avoided.

Mike, Mervyn & Peter
Thank you all for your considerable assistance in helping me through this process. My family tree installed in Windows on my Mac yesterday morning without a hitch and I was able to go out for the day feeling relaxed. This experience was not something I contemplated when I bought the Mac - which I love - but in a perverse way I have 'enjoyed' this learning process!
Thank you all again

Phil, did you follow all the steps in the how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide?
If not, then don't be surprised if you hit some snags later on !!!!!!!!

Mike
Thanks for the caution!!
I did not do the 3 Plug-in steps because I know I used just the Installation Settings a few years back and comparing FH on each screen leaves me comfortable with that decision.
I also have stored the FH update and upgrade downloads, and i will keep a full copy of this whole post on the forum.

OK, I am happy about you leaving out the Plugin steps.
Just check all your Tools > Preferences settings, all Records Window columns for each tab, a few Reports and Diagrams, and any Custom Queries.
Did you check Tools > External File Links and find them all OK without any X marks?
BTW: I've moved this whole thread to General Usage because it was never actually to do with Importing and Exporting from/to another genealogy program.
FYI: I have added how_to:family_historian_ancestral_sources_on_oracle_virtualbox|> Family Historian & Ancestral Sources on Oracle VirtualBox so would anyone who has installed FH & AS on VirtualBox please check it over.
