Listing/Editing Citations for a Source

Is there any way I can get an 'Editable' list of citations associated with a particular source?

I was thinking along the lines Tools/Working with Data/Addresses, where one can see all the Addresses and can edit/merge them as required.

I wish to do the similar thing with Citations, as over the years my ideas have changed, and I want to get some consistency back.

Yes, the List All Citations for ... range of Plugins should list what you want in a Result Set.

That gives you shortcuts to all the Citations and Sources, and if you need to merge Source records use Edit > Merge/Compare Records, which should also automatically adjust the Citations of those Source records.

Jim & Mike,

Thanks, your suggestions did provide a solution of sorts. One can't edit the citation directly from the resultset, but I can live with that!

NB FTM does do some things useful - when working with sources, clicking on a source automatically opens a list of citations, and with a right click, they can be edited directly - something to put on the wish list for FH?

Yes, I think the reverse links features of FH could be improved, not just for Source records, but also for Place, Media, and Note records.

Currently, the View > Record Links command leads to the parent records, but only one record at a time can be opened, and finding the specific Citation or Fact that links to the record of interest is a challenge.

I have written a Plugin to implement a Where Used feature for any selected Records.

See ATTACHMENTS Where Used Record Links Version 0.1 Dated 22 Nov 2015.
[ EDIT: ATTACHMENT deleted as superseded by Version 0.4 Dated 25 Nov 2015 later. ]

Simply select one or more records in any tab of the Records Window or in some other windows.
Run the Plugin and it will produce a 'Where Used Record Links' Result Set of clickable links that open a Property Box.
In some cases you must switch to the Notes, Media , or All tab to find the link to a record.

If it meets with general approval, I intend to publish to the Plugin Store soon.

Thanks, Mike. This certainly meets with my approval, and is well worth adding to the Tools menu.

Very useful plugin, thanks Mike. Makes life a lot easier than having to run View > Record Links multiple times . :)

I have added a few refinements that more often than not will open the Media/Notes/All tab of the Field Where Used when double-clicked.

It also lists any records that have "No 'Where Used Recod Links' found" amongst others that do.

BTW: The Plugn identifies the Field Where Used that View > Record Links does not.

[EDIT: Faulty ATTACHMENT deleted.]

Hi Mike,

I've just tried to use your Where Used Record Links plugin on Place records (following my reorganisation to put all address information into Place fields), and the plugin returns an error message on all of the records I've tried so far:
Where Used Record Links - Error.JPG
Where Used Record Links - Error.JPG (55.64 KiB) Viewed 7323 times
That place record title is:

, 164, Chatsworth Road, , Stoke Newington, London, England

note the space after the commas. That record has 16 links.

I realise that you'd written the plugin for Source records originally, but one of you posts indicate that it should work with Place records, which would be really useful, as reverse links are a bit of a pain to trace back otherwise.

Yes, sorry David, a minor glitch, and it does work for EVERY type of record - all 9 of them.

Try the ATTACHMENTS fixed Version 0.3 Dated 24 Nov 2015.

BTW: See the Plugins in Source - Where Used (12770) that offer a more focussed Result Set just for Source Citations, whereas this new Plugin is a general purpose Where Used for all record types, although thinking about it, perhaps it could be tailored to give a different Result Set for each type of record and make those earlier Plugins redundant!

[EDIT: ATTACHMENT deleted as superseded by Version 0.4 Dated 25 Nov 2015 with Result Set tailored to Record Type.]

Excellent! That works fine for my Place records. Thanks Mike.

Those other two plugins that you referenced don't seem to have made it into the Store yet, but I'll pick them up from Jim's post.

Try the ATTACHMENTS Plugin Version 0.4 Dated 25 Nov 2015.

This does everything it did before, but a little better for some features, like adding a Data Ref column, and other extra columns for different record types.

It allows records to be selected before running Plugin, but if none selected the Plugin will Prompt for them.

For Source Records it gives virtually the same Result Set of Citations as all the Plugins in Source - Where Used (12770) so potentially makes them all redundant.

Notice how for Source Records and Repository Records and Place Records additional Result Set Columns are added on the right, but different data for each record type. Is there similar extra data needed for other record types? P.S. I am working on adding Frame Area, Exclude From, Caption Text for Media Records.

[EDIT: ATTACHMENT deleted as Plugin V1.0 now in Plugin Store with Result Set tailored to include Media Records.]
