Version 6 tutorials

I have very recently downloaded the 30 day trial of Version 6 and am having difficulty in following the instructions to link photographs. The tutorial often shows things that do not happen when I try - for instance the "link to face" that you show at the top to the right of arrows is not there for me. I now have unwanted photographs as profile pictures and can find no way to remove them. Is there a written V6 manual available? I probably would find that easier. I was so thrilled at how easy it was to transfer my research from the other software and I like the way information is displayed, but I have fallen at this hurdle and would appreciate some help.
Many thanks
Anniebeth

Welcome to the FHUG, Anniebeth.
Have you tried the video in how_to:v4:adding_multimedia|> Adding Photographs and Other Multimedia for Family Historian V6+.
To remove Media from the Media tab use the X Delete/Unlink option and choose to Unlink.
As a newcomer please investigate how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and all its links, especially the documention including Getting the Most From FH 5 which has downloadable tutorials and is still very relevant for FH V6.

Hi Anniebeth,
Unfortunately there is no printed for V6, although as Mike says “Getting the Most from Family Historian V5” is still has much that is relevant to V6.
The Media window has changed somewhat between V5 and V6, but the technique for linking media to a person via the Media tab of the individual’s Property box has not changed much.
Do you mean your ‘unwanted’ photos are not needed in FH at all, or just that you have extra unwanted links to them? When you select a picture in the Media tab and click the red cross in the toolbar above the thumbnails, you will be asked if you want to Unlink Only or Delete Multimedia Record. Unlinking will leave the multimedia record in FH so that any other links it has are preserved. If it is not needed at all in FH the record can be deleted. If you just want to remove a ‘frame’ link (a link to face), double-click the thumbnail to open the Edit Media Item box and then click the Select Frame button and hit the Delete key. FH is very versatile so these operations can also be done in the Multimedia Window but it is probably best to learn one method at a time.
The best bet if you are stuck is to refer to the Help files. For example, if you are looking at the Media tab of the Property Box where there are some thumbnail images displayed, double-click on one of the thumbnails to open the Edit Media Item box. In the bottom right there is a Help button. In this context that takes you to the section of Help headed Edit Media Item, which in turn has a link to the section on How to Link Individuals to Their Faces in Pictures.

Thank you to Mike and Lorna for their replies. Have not been able to resolve the problem so feel Family Historian is not for me. User friendly this software is definitely not!

Annibeth,
I too have recently moved to FH (2 weeks ago) after 6 or 7 years using Family Tree Maker, and must admit FH does things differently and seemed strange at first.
However, after browsing 'Getting the most from Family Historian 5', I found it most informative and an excellent introduction and I can only advise you to persevere.
I found I have a lot more control over my data, and when i do hit a problem, the folks on this forum are quick to help. I won't be going back to FTM!

I know what you mean!
I moved from FTM and had a tricky few weeks while I learned the different way things work. Now that I've got my head round FH6 and added in some of the excellent plugins, I'd never go back.
I rarely pop in here these days - I'm too busy researching and logging stuff.
Persevere - it's a lot better than FTM and doesn't have the memory leak that crashed that for me after a day's work.
