F.H. Version 6.
I am creating a book to print out with Microsoft Word containing a series of Family Group Sheets. Can you please tell me how to delete the name under the photo of each individual. I have tried unchecking what I thought was the relevant box in Book Settings but without success. What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks,
billygee

Re: Help with Report Photo Captions
It's always good to specify exactly what you have tried, then we won't waste time advising you to try what you have already tried.
I don't have FH available to me just now, but have you tried the Caption options of the Pictures tab?
Why are you using MS Word to printout the Book, as usually Save as PDF will give a more faithful rendition.

Re: Help with Report Photo Captions
Hi Mike
Thanks for your reply, but we have discussed the reason for printing a hard copy of the book before. Perhaps I have got it all wrong, but can you please tell me what is the advantage of saving the book as a PDF file, can I still print out a hard copy from a PDF file?
Regarding the individual names under a picture in a Family Group Sheet, the name and details of the individual are already there, so what is the point of repeating the name again? Also the name appears distorted i.e Jocelyn Maria
Hasslegra
ve.
In addition to the name looking wrong, it takes up too much space (three spaces in the above example) as I would like to 'tweek' some space to avoid a possible slight over spill to the next page.
I hope you can follow this reasoning, and put me on the right path.

billygee

Re: Help with Report Photo Captions
Saving the book as PDF will retain the layout exactly. This is important if you have changed the default position for the display of pitures. If you look at the Pictures tab of the Report options you will see that just below the section on Picture Location it says '*pictures display above the text in reports saved in RTF format'. So if you are saving as RTF in order to print with Microsoft Word you can only have the pictures above the text. Showing a caption with the picture gives the option of including the year of the picture and/or the individual's age at the time of the picture, the title of the picture, or a special note (if you have opted to 'Use note as caption' for a particular picture). However if you don't need any of those you don't need to display a caption at all.Regarding the individual names under a picture in a Family Group Sheet, the name and details of the individual are already there, so what is the point of repeating the name again?
You said you have unticked an option in Book settings. There is an option there on the Sources tab, which applies to the book as a whole, but that won't apply to the main body of the reports. You need to go to the Pictures tab of the Report options and untick Show Captions with Pictures. This can be accessed by opening a Family Group Sheet report (not a book) and clicking the Options button on the right. Then use Save Report As > Custom Report Type and give it a distinct name. When creating the book, select Other Report.. and scroll down to select your custom report.
It is also possible to access the Pictures tab of the Report options from the gear-wheel icon at the foot of the Current Book Items section. However I think you would have to set your preference there on every Family Group sheet separately - quite a chore if you have many Family Group sheets in the book.

I had the same problem regarding photo captions but Mike kindly made me a plug in: http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... 776#p52725

I'd rather look for dead people than have them look for me.
