computer crash
My Dell PC running Win7 has crashed.
I originally installed FH v4 from a CD.
I then upgraded, online, to v5.
I then upgraded, online, to v6.
First question--How do I re-install Family Historian v6
Second question--How do I re-populate the data I had, into the program, once I have it installed?
Thank you, in advance

Re: computer crash
I assume from the tone of your posting that the PC crash has destroyed all your files??
If not, then please explain what files you have got, or any external backups.
See how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice.
Essentially you install the downloaded FH V6 with the V5 and V6 licence keys.
If any of those are not available, then see the FH Licence Problems advice in the link above.
Restoring your Projects and Settings will depend on what backups you have.
If you have no backups and nothing in PC, then I am afraid it is all gone!

Dear Tatewise,
Thank you for your reply.
I believe I have a copy of all the data in the Cloud (at least I hope I do)
Following your suggestion, I have re-installed v4 from the original CD. I have then installed updates (v4.1.3)
If I follow the link for upgrades from the FH program OR if I go to the FH website, I am given the option of buying an upgrade from v4 to v6 BUT I have to pay for it.
I have the keys which I used to upgrade to v5 and then to v6 but I can't figure out how to use those keys without paying additional money.
I'd better get v6 installed. Then I can worry if I am able to import the data (assuming it is available)
Thank you

Re: computer crash
You have misunderstood the advice in how_to:family_historian_installation_details|> Family Historian Installation Details:
If you still have the downloaded installation file for FH Upgrade V5 to V6 that came with its licence key then use that.
If not then follow the advice in how_to:family_historian_licence_problems|> Family Historian Licence Problems and request a free new download from Calico Pie. Please make an Installation Archive to avoid future loss of such a valuable resource.
Finally, update to the latest free download: fhugdownloads:contents:family_historian_6.x.y_upgrade|> Family Historian Version 6.0.4 Upgrade.
You do NOT install FH V4 nor FH Upgrade V4 to V5, just install FH Upgrade V5 to V6.Unlike previously, the Upgrade V5 to V6 product does NOT need the preceding Versions to be installed. It only needs the latest Upgrade Licence details, and the previous Upgrade Licence details.

Re: computer crash
Thank you. I had read the articles you previously suggested but, certainly, did NOT understand.
I will uninstall v4 and attempt to find the v5 to v6 upgrade in my data in the Cloud (as I do have the key). Failing that, I will contact Calico Pie, as you suggest.
Many thanks.
p.s. I'll follow your suggestion about 'Installation Archive'

Re: computer crash
Dear Tatewise,
Thank you. I was unable to find the installation file for FH Upgrade V5 to V6 that came with its licence key.
However, Family Historian Support was very helpful. They sent an easily-followed link to my wife (who had given me v6 as a present), together with a new key. Having done that, the data automatically repopulated the program. I had to do a few tweaks as the names of some of the folders in the recovered data had changed.
I then had to figure out how to configure FileZilla, which is the program I had previously used to get the FH-prepared website onto my personal website. A little trial and error paid off.
I'm back in business.

Re: computer crash
I am glad that all worked out OK.
Just check you have the latest free download: fhugdownloads:contents:family_historian_6.x.y_upgrade|> Family Historian Version 6.0.4 Upgrade.
Don't forget to make a how_to:family_historian_installation_details#installation_archive|> Installation Archive to avoid future loss of such a valuable resource.
