Advice

Post by billygee » 10 Sep 2015 14:19

Hi Jerry,
Could you please answer the following two questions?
1. Can I open a project at a specific person instead of the default root person?
2. When several photos of a person are imported, they are shown at the top of the focus window. However, only one photo is shown in the Spouse and children field. Can these photos be juggled about?

Many thanks,
Billygee

I am Mike not Jerry, but hope that is OK.

1. No, FH always opens the Focus Window focussed on the File Root, so maybe temporarily change the File Root before closing FH. There might be a better answer if you explain why you want another Individual to be the focus of the Focus Window.

2. If you make any Individual (Spouse, Child, etc) the focus of the Focus Window then their photos will appear at the top. I am not sure what you mean by "photos juggled about".

The photos linked to an Individual are listed on the Media tab of the Property Box for the Individual. Photos are displayed at the top of the Focus window in order of Preference (the third column on the Media tab) and when only one photo can be shown, it is that with Pref = 1. You can click on a photo in the Media (1st) column and raise or lower its Preference value by clicking the appropriate up or down arrow button with the yellow star.

Hi Mike,
Sorry for the mistaken name. The reason I wish to open a project at a chosen name instead of the default root name is that one has to trawl right down from the root name to the family/generation one is working on.

Finding who you have been working on is a regular question.
You don't need to trawl, just use the last Updated date/time stamp on the records.
Open the Records Window and click on the Updated column heading.
This sorts the records into date/time last Updated order.
If you want the reverse order, then hold down the Alt key while clicking the heading.
The records you were updating will be at the top (or bottom) of the list.

The same technique works for any column to sort into Record Name, Record Id, etc, order.

The same technique works for any type of record by choosing the Individuals, Notes, Sources, Multimedia, etc, tab.

Alternatively, you can use the Find/Filter... search box at the top.
