Removing Sources from Names

Post by psinacio » 15 Jul 2015 21:23

Dear Colleagues,

A long time ago I started adding sources to my ancestors names.
Now I regret that, since I only add Sources to event facts like birth, baptism, marriage, etc..

Does any one knows an easy and quick way to delete / unlink sources to names?

Regards,
Pedro

You can use an Individual Query where a column has the Expression %INDI.NAME[1].SOUR[1]%; then you can highlight the entries in that column and press delete.

MOST IMPORTANT: Do NOT use the Expression %INDI.NAME[1].SOUR[1]>% because that would delete the Source Record rather than the Citation Field. You must pay close attention to the warning message that appears when you press delete.

But of course the source record for a persons baptism could be (for the time being) the only source for that persons parents, so I add the source citation to their name(s). If you're looking at the individual record for the parents I find it useful to be reminded where I got the name from.

You may need to repeat the Query in case there is more than one Citation per Primary Name.

Also change the Expression to %INDI.NAME[2].SOUR[1]% (i.e. NAME[1] becomes NAME[2]) in case you have Alternative Name Citations.
